New player help: are there spell slots?
I'm coming from 5e and BG3, and this game is confusing the hell out of me. I have Camellia the Shaman, and if I go Character and then Spells I can see that she has 2 charges of Cure Light Wounds, which I guess are restored on a short rest. But I also have a Paladin that has Lay on Hands and Smite, but they aren't shown under Spells, and I can't find how many charges of them I have. Could anyone help?

Also, is there any benefit to sneaking and attacking first, like a sneak attack in 5e/BG3?

You basically have spells and abilities. They work the same an all have a small number on them that indicate how often you can use them.

The spells are under the icon located on the left of the main actions-menu on the lower edge of the screen in the middle. The abilities are in the middle, right of the spells and then you have the quick-use inventory slots on the right.

You can of course also drag-and-drop anything in and out of the quick use bar right below those.

If you go to the class progression screen, above the feats I think there’s a circled number which represents what class level your character will receive a new spell (and if you hover/right click over it should also show you what spells you get). For paladins, rangers, and bloodragers, they don’t get level 1 spells until their class level reaches 4, and when you look at their spellbook at that point (press “B”) you’ll notice paladins and rangers also start at caster level 1 at that point.

I can’t recall for sure, but I believe paladins in WotR can use scrolls for spells on their list before they reach level 4, so load down those quick slots!

To answer your last question, yes, characters that haven't acted yet in the start of combat are "flat footed". Thus they lose their dex bonus to AC as well as their CMD. This also increases the importance of initiative and first hitting as you can guess.

There are feats and abilities that can mitigate flat-footed as well.

As well as feats that can add vulnerabilities.

Flat footed?

basically the first round of combat.... anyone who hasnt had a turn yet is flat footed... meaning denied their dex bonus to AC....

if your playing turn based you can see that condition on the top bar as to who has it and who doesnt...

but there are feats and abilities that provide bonuses or protections against flat footed characters... you pretty much wanna go first so your not flat footed and the enemies are...
