Despite she not getting captured at all for me, since I had Nurah, but I'm assuming here that what happens is you save the hostages, and still obtain the research project when you storm Mutasafen lab.
This might be what it refers to
Strangely, Mutasafen reasearch seems to unlock 2 treaties (source : same youtube video) :
1) "Records of Pulura's stargazers"
2 "Northern light".
However, as an angel, I already did the first research during Act 3 and, in fact, it seems I have unlocked the 2nd research just by searching at the bookshelves after Matasafen fled.
Maybe I need to kill Mr M too ? Heading to his lab atm...
What precisely are thoses researches unlocked by **not letting** Mutasafen escape ?
If those are the ones mentionned above ("Records of Pulura's stargazers" and "Northern light"), then - at least as an angel - it isn't mandatory to prevent Mutasafen from escaping : I let him escape in my current playthrough and I still can reasearch those 2 (1st one was done in Act 3 as I said earlier - and 2nd one is unlocked by searching the bookshelves).
Can someone please confirm that I didn't miss anything by letting Mutasafen escape (if that's indeed the case, ofc) ?
Edit : I went to Muta's lab, perma-killed him (as well as a nasty crystal), saved Targona, but couldn't find any more research to be done there...
Maybe somebody else knows if it triggers something else or if they changed that in a patch.
Northern light research will be used for cleaning the sky or something at the door of Threshold, not related to secret ending.
1) Only the stargazers research is relevant for an ascension ending (the northern light research has no direct connection with this ending).
2) Which is why, as an angel, you can let Mr M. flee : he's taking with him the documents that enable the stargazers research, but that doesn't matter since you already have had access to those documents in Act 3. The fact that it is possible to catch up with Mr M. later (still, as an angel) is probably irrelevant.
Seems to make sense. Thx again all for the answers.
One of the requirements for the secret ending is a research project called "Pulura's Fall Stargazer research". In order to have it available as a card in crusade management, you have to find it as a book in the observatory in Pulura's Fall.
In a normal (non-angel) playthrough, the first time you reach this location (or at least, the first time you have access to the inside of the temple) is in act 5. Mutasafen has it, is trying to run away, and makes you choose between stopping him (allowing you to get the document and open the secret ending) but with all the temple people being killed, or saving them but letting him escape with the book (closing off the secret ending).
There are 3 ways to get the secret ending:
1. Any character of any path can simply choose to let Pulura's priests die, stop Mutasafen and take the stargazers' notes.
2. If all the way in act 1, in the library (when saving the Storyteller) you chose the Trickster option, and in act 2 you found out Nurah is a traitor and confronted her about it, you would've had an option to ally with her just before she escapes from your camp. This has two implications: first, in the final fight of act 2 she will help you fight Minagho and Staunton (instead of fighting alongside them against you) and secondly, in act 5 she will stop Mutasafen from fleeing with the notes even if you choose to save the priests, so you can save the priests AND get the stargazers' notes needed for the secret ending. Note that you don't have to choose the Trickster Mythic Path, you just need to choose the Trickster option in act 1 (that opens the possibility for a Trickster playthrough, but you can choose any path you like when you reach mythic rank 3).
3. Specifically for an Angel, you get access to the temple observatory as soon as act 3. Mutasafen is not there yet, everybody is safe and the notes are just lying around. You can pick them up, perform the research in the crusde management screen, and not worry about Mutasafen escaping with them in act 5 because you already got what you needed from them. You can focus on saving the priests and deal with him later.
