Should I be selling all thesse books I'm finding?
I read through them. Occasionally I can tell I'm finding an easter egg or a clue to something hidden, but otherwise they seem mostly useless.

Also, it seems very, very rarely having a book in my inventory gives my main character a buff of some sort (e.g., +1 or +2 to a skill), but the book itself doesn't make it clear that they do this and I only found this by going to my character and checking the Ability section.

The big downside is that the "Ability" goes away if I put the book away, which is dumb. Abilities like this should be permanent "knowledge" from reading the book. Or am I missing something about how this works?

Basically I'm trying to figure out should I stop hoarding these 80+ books I have in my personal stash.

Wait is this true/tested? I keep all books in storage and never checked.

If you are talking about the books that are nothing but reading material, a lot of those are worth 0 gp so there's no sell value. You can just drop them, but they also barely have any weight.

The books that gives you an ability score benefit (+2 to wis, whatev), are supposed to vanish after being used and improving that score.

The only book I've held onto as a "usable" item (it isn't really usable per se but you put it in a slot, like some other items) is the grimoire that gives you extra spell slots.

There are also these books:

https://www.neoseeker.com/pathfinder-wrath-of-the-righteous/guides/Unique_Items#Important_Books

and I think those are the ones that @Khorm was concerned about. They look like regular books and no, you don't have to carry them around with you.

They give variety of permanent bonuses to MC if you make him read them (you have to use "Info" option from right click menu, MC must be the one with inventory opened when you do this).

There is also "Cooking Almanac of the Inner Sea", the book written by one of companions from previous game (you will find multiple copies of this one). There is an Easter egg related to that book late in game and it's good to keep one in your inventory.

As for "usable" books there is also Book of Dreams (that you can find in gargoyle cave in Lost Chapel in Act 2) which is great for summoners. And yes, it occupies one of your quick slots.

There are several books that grant you permanent bonuses once you read them, and Im not talking about manuals here. Its not trivial to see what books gives these bonuses, best to just click info once and then get rid of them.

When I find a book in loot, before even picking it up, I "read it" to see if it gives my character a bonus. (Check your combat log to see if it gave you a bonus)

I usually pick them all up anyhow and do a mass sell next time I'm at a merchant.

There are a few books described in above threads that have other uses.

afaik important books have some sort of usable ability

there is that cooking almanac but you don't really lose anything if you don't find it or whatsoever so most books are just trash

if you want to make sure you don't lose any store them in your stash
