What if I don't fight Zacharius
I don't want to be a Lich. WHat if I just give him back his wand.

You will unlock the Lich path, but you don't have to follow it. The choice comes later and you can choose from all the paths you unlock. Up to 6.

If you are worried about role playing giving his wand back as a good character, note that someone mentioned if you choose 'Bit of Luck' as your first 2 paths you can summon the Will-o-wisp which is immune to *all* his magic to make the fight easier.

Should I try to beat him. My team is level 7. Hes level 14 and kicked my butt pretty easily in my first try. His spells effect everybody for big damage. Is it better to kill him or let him live if I din't intend to ever be a lich.

You'd did a right act and killed undead monstrosity? :)
If you're struggling with him - I have a bad news for your party. He is mostly harmless and you will meet a lot more deadly enemies then him later.

A level 14 lich AC 30 HP 203 DR 15 Immune to almost everything is not harmless to a level 7 party .. He cast spells that do 30+ pts damage to everyone at the same time. You have to do more than 15 points of damage to even effect him. When I meet those foes later I will be higher level so no they are not more dangerous.

Just give him the wand; my RP reason for giving him it is that we have a shared enemy that being the demons and a powerful Lich would be a good ally to have against the demontide; call me a bit crazy but I'll take anyone I can get to fight demons and honestly I'd rather have an undead lord that can't be swayed by demons as a friend then say I don't know any self-righteous zealot.

thank you..Thats what I think I'll do. I have tried the battle a few times and did not last long.

You can go back and kill him after Drezen when you're L9-10. A lot easier then, not least 'cos you'll have access to Death Ward. He's hard to beat at L7 'cos you haven't really got much defence against his necro ♥♥♥♥. It can be done, I did it, but I had two companions dead as a result so reloaded and came back later.
