My first game was on Casual because that's what a friend recommended, and I got to act 5, but it was way too easy so I started another run on Core, which feels a much better level of challenge.
I haven't reached the level of mastery over this system that funnels me towards challenge runs, and besides - I'm a very character-driven gamer who hates using mercenaries and none of my favorite characters are Unfair viable. I don't think I'll be doing Unfair any time soon. Minmaxing is nice, but I don't like being forced to minmax at gunpoint.
All that said, I appreciate all the build advice in here! My stat distribution framework has been shaped by other games where the MC was the one making skill checks, which pushed me towards CHA and INT more than I need to be here.
And if you need to test character builds for combat viability, The Treasure of the Midnight Isles is a perfect sandbox for it. I've been using it to test different Mythic paths without having to commit to them in the main campaign. And I discovered that Azata get ugly bug wings at Mythic Rank 9, and haven't found any way to make them go away even with Toybox yet. I deleted the dragon though. Silly little Aivu got baleeted. I think that would have horrifying consequences if I did it in the main campaign, but at least where I am now, there is no consequence to being an Azata without a dragon (nor any other allies, for that matter).
Funny thing about Azata... if they're supposed to be about "freedom" then why are they bogged down with all sorts of hangers on? Why is the Azata path basically a "power of friendship" path? Freedom to me means doing things alone. Solo run. Wonder if I could do that.... Solo Azata...
Incidentally... in-keeping with the actual topic of the thread.... I don't have dump-stats. I just have stats I don't boost as much as others. Usually strength, since I'm pretty much always a primary spellcaster.
