How to grapple?
I can't figure out how to grapple a target. My druid's dire bear companion says it does extra damage when it grapples, but i can't figure out how to do it.

There are components of this game where they mention rules or concepts that haven't yet, and won't be, implemented into the game. It's annoying, but it is what it is.

That said, looking at your image:

Looks like at 7th level you get that "grabber" ability as part of your claw attack. I would assume "grabber" is a free grapple check as part of your attack. Not unlike how wolves have "trip" as part of their bite attack.

In the PC game, you can't just do most combat maneuvers, you need the feat (or a special rule that triggers them for free, like grabber).

If the pen & paper is any basis, the grapple feat should require improved unarmed strike and dex 13. As far as I know, there is no such feat. You can use the in-game search to see what feats are available even if you don't meet the requirements.

It's a combat maneuver, so it's should be in the action list (like coup de grace, tumble etc.). That said, are you using a mod ? Because I don'r think dire bears are inthe base game.

It is, on the new patch... they changed the names and some abilities of the pets

Was this a game started before the patch or after?

If you were to read the details in your own screen shot, you would see that the bear gains the grasbber ability with its claw attacks, and mousing over that would tell you that it automatically attempts a grapple when it hits with its claws.

So basically, you dont do anything special, just let the bear full attack and it happens.

i understand the grabber ability but grappling should be a combat maneuver available to anyone, correct? any character should be able to attempt a grapple?

Thank you for the perfect response! This was the most helpful thing on the entire internet about how grappling works in the game. Seriously, if you google it there's nobody with these questions out there. While i dont agree with the implementation, at least it makes sense now. Thanks!
