Single/Double Sword icon next to Weapon slot
For some weapons there is a Single/Double Sword icon next to the Weapon slot. In the game there is no explanation what this actually does. I assume it has to to with wielding 1.5 handed Weapons either with one or both hands but it is not clear at all if two swords means 2 hands and 1 Sword means 1 hand. It could also be interpreted as 2 Swords meaning Dual Wielding, so having the off hand free, and 1 Sword meaning single wielding, so using both hands.

Could anyone who knows for sure explain?

It means if you're using one hand or two hands with versatile weapons.
Click on it to change how many hands you're using.

For example you can decide you want to use a longsword with two hands for bonus extra Str damage, or use it one hand and keep the offhand free. (some feats depend on offhand being empty)

It has nothing to do with dual wielding which requires two weapons. The icon only appears when you have a versatile weapon equipped with offhand empty.

Note that, in order for your stats to update on the combat information part of your character sheet, after you change your wield style, either unequip and re-equip the weapon, or swap to a different weapon set and back. Just changing your grip doesnt update the info to reflect.

So the number of Swords on the icon represents the amount of hands you are holding them with, correct?

Yup. One sword means you're one handing it. Two means you're two handing it. Three means you're three handing it.

Ok, I think all my questions are cleared up. Thanks everyone for providing the information!

An interesting option with this is if you have Crane Wing. By switching to 1-handed you gain +4 a/c but lose the damage bonus from wielding 2-handed.
