Have they fixed the controller support yet?

Seems like it's broken after a certain update, and most search results show people still having the problem in 2024. Kingmaker also has the same problem, the game just won't recogize the controller. Stuck at the "Press A to play with controller" prompt at the start.

Works for me.

The only thing I dislike about the controller support is that it can't do both controller AND keyboard/mouse at the same time. It's all or nothing.

So if I bump the controller, it annoyingly wants to switch. I had to unplug the controller.

As for controller recognition, does steam recognize your controller?

It works for me, but it's still got a lot of minor bugs. What controller are you using? I was having a lot of compatibility issues across a bunch of games with generic controllers from amazon, so I got an Xbox controller and it solved all of them

But I don't really use my controller for this game. I use it for like ESO and fallout 76, when/if I play. Kinda burnt out on those games at the moment.

I use DS4. Steam does recognize it since I also play other games with it just fine. Kingmaker used to work fine in the past, but right now it doesn't work anymore.

I know that I can just buy this and refund if it doesn't work like Kingmaker, but it'd be nice if I can get some confirmation first.

A controller is like an extension of yourself. Don't cheap out. I would recommend an Xbox controller. Don't go for any of those third party Xbox controllers like PowerA. My son bought me a Fusion(the one with the wings on the backside) but It started to drift after a year and no amount of re-calibrating would fix it. I absolutely loved the feel of it in my hands so I hoped that the drift was a one off and bought another PowerA less than a year and the stick began to drift. Same thing, Calibration did little to fix it

Xbox (aka microsoft) makes crappy controllers these days. Expensive and crappy.

Quite happy with mine. And I prefer corded controllers.

So don't worry about kingmaker or this, the key is if you can get it to be acknowledged by steam (like before you turn on pathfinder).

Steam>settings>controllers
Is there a controller detected?
Can you "test device inputs"?
Does the little steam art of the controller match your input?

Mine says it detects "QIXIONG Wire PS4 Controller"
And it can test device inputs, which match up with the motions I use or the buttons I push.

EDIT: Hmm...yeah, I load into Wrath just to test it, I'm not getting past the screen you linked either. I mean, it works if I hit the keyboard.

It worked a patch or two ago.

Yeah, it works if I hit the keyboard, or if map my controller to keyboard layout. It means that the controller is working but it doesn't detect the gamepad UI.

It doesn't seem to recognize DualSense Edge. If I use SteamInput (Xbox emulation), I have to press something after the Paizo logo and before the Press (A) appears or it'll be hit-or-miss whether it recognizes the SteamInput at all.

(Several games that recognize DualSense don't recognize DualSense Edge. Weird. Steam says that WotR recognizes DualSense natively, but it hasn't recognized my Edge so far.)

I fixed this issue. Open control panel >> devices and printers in windows, right click your controller and pick "Game Controller settings"
If you have anything other than your xbox controller (like vjoy in my case) you need to right click the start button and goto device manager. Find your..... vjoy in my case, under human interface device, right click it and disable device. And your golden.
