Through the ashes and lord of nothing are their own thing, together, starting with through the ashes. If you complete them it has minor effects on the main story. I don't find them very fun.
Inevitable access and Midnight isles DLC are both built into the main story, but if you want to do them seperately, these options are here. Inevitable access can also be used to plan character builds, since it's endgame DLC, so you can see all the options for character and mythic path when designing your character.
PS: the DLC mentioned above are all rather disappointing in my opinion. The main value is that they unlock classes and other content in the main story that is good, but their zones are kinda lacking and poorly done, in my opinion.
I haven't explored Dance of Masks yet, no idea what that one does.
If you want maximum items imported from DLCs into main campaign, then Inevitable Excess on Unfair (including killing Inevitable Darkness) - this will give you 3 rifts with powerful items in Martyr Zacharius' Cemetery, Midnight Fane and Colyphyr Mines. Also will give 1 per rest powerful ability.
Lord of Nothing on Unfair (including killing Chained Darkness) will give you mediocre items in Act 2. You have to jump into the well (which leads into the cave, where Book of Dreams is), then with True Seeing reveal a chest.
Treasure of Midnight Isles and Last Sarkorians are integrated quest campaigns into the game (with many items), nothing special to explain there.
Through the Ashes importing minor items into the main game, not difficulty-dependent, not worth mentioning.
If you want content, it's other story. I would recommend to beat main game until you done with Kenabres first, then play Through the Ashes and Lord of Nothing, then beat main campaign (Treasure of Midnight Isles and Sarkorian campaigns included) until Threshold, then play Inevitable Excess, then finish the main game.
Yep, I went to google and read about DLC affecting the main story, so it's difficult to decide, where should I start, considering I did went through the main story once.
As far as I understand, this piece will take place in the main story, so no confusion.
- Main campaign Prologue & Act 1 until just before the tavern defense battle
- Through the Ashes DLC
- Continue the main campaign until the start of Act 2
- The Lord of Nothing DLC
- Continue the main campaign on Act 2
- Visit the Last Sarkorian portion in the main campaign
- Continue the main campaign up to Act 3
- Do another portion the Last Sarkorian DLC
- Visit the Treasures of the Midnight Isles DLC in Act 3
- Proceed to Act 4 of the main campaign
- Do another portion of the Treasures of the Midnight Isles DLC in Act 4
- Proceed to Act 5 of the main campaign
- Do another portion of the Treasures of the Midnight Isles DLC in Act 5
- Do another portion the Lord of Nothing DLC, this time in the main campaign
- Get the invitation to A Dance if Masks DLC after Iz in Act 5
- Continue to Act 6 and initiate the final fight
- Inevitable Excess DLC
Something like that. It's... complicated.
