Sword saint + brown fur?
Hello!

I came back to the game after 2 years. All my build knowledge left me, so I come here for help.

I want to build a shapeshifting dragon basically, so I was thinking brown fur (for all the stat boosts to shapeshifting) and then... sword saint for the AC int bonus? I would then use int instead of cha (so no scaled fist). Would then also take 4 levels of dragon disciple for the stat buffs, for a total of: 1 sword saint, 14 brown fur, 4 dragon disciple (and perhaps 1 scaled fist anyway?)

Oh lord, what a mess... Anyway, tips would be welcome :)

dipping swordsaint is pointless you get like 1 point of ac. Have a merc BFT instead and go high with SS

Sword Saint only gives you 1 point of dodge per level of the class and requires you are using your chosen weapon. Duelist doesn't have the weapon restriction, but it is also limited to 1 point per level, so you'd only get a single point out of this idea. You would probably get more out of Instinctual warrior or scaled fist.

You will end up becoming a Saint Fur or a Brown Sword.

Ok so sword saint is useless then. Still 1 level of scaled fist, and dump int and go cha instead? And then still dip dragon disciple or are those few stat points not worth it?

what mythic path did you want to do? What diff you playing on? What style of play do you want your dragon to do, more melee or casting?

you still trying to cram multiple character builds into a single character? The game is intentionally designed so one character can't be good at everything.

Basically, you can build to be sharp in one direction, or sharp in another direction, but if you are sharp in all directions, you fail by becoming a smooth circle. The more builds you try to cram into your character, the more you'll be mediocre.

If you want a shapeshifting dragon that is focused entirely on that, there's a Dragonblood Shifter that is specifically designed to be just that.

Or you can be a buff bot brown fur transmuter.

Or some other option, but each has pros and cons and if you try to be good at everything, your final build will be mediocre at everything.

I like the idea of being creative. I'm not sure if losing the level 20 ability and level 8 and 9 spells is worth the dip in Dragon disciple. If you went Lich, you'd at least get all the level 10 Lich spells.

You got me thinking of doing a Brown Fur my next build. It's one of a few classes I've never touched and I've been interested in playing an Arcanist. I just could never get myself to do it. They were never intriguing enough to me. This is.

Hmmm...to that end, if OP goes the lich path, their mythic spell book can combine with the arcanist to get access to higher level spells.

Where do I find the Dragonblood Shifter? I've not seen that one before.

Shifter Archetype.

Hmm...shifter might be a DLC added class, so if you don't have all the DLC, might not be an option.

I did some searching and found the Lord of Nothing gives more added classes as well as the shifter. I was not paying attention to those. Thanks

The lord of nothing will only give you a shifter subclass if you already have the shifter class from the last sark dlc.

huh, well, the one I linked specifically says it adds the shifter, so not sure.

I just bought the season passes, when they were new and the game just seems to update itself, from time to time...

I wasnt trying to be everything-all-at-once. I want to be a melee buffer (early game) who turns into a dragon in fights and destroys everything with its natural attacks. So no offensive casting.
I guess that means I can dump INT as arcanist and focus CHA, which would make scaled fist a good match for the +extra AC.
For prestige class I guess lich (for the dmg reduction and inflicting frightened). I seem to recall you could then go dazzling display and cornugash smash or something to inflict mass fear on enemies?
Then finally go into gold dragon for the RP - although I never played that before so Im not sure what it would add over dropping lich late levels.

Dazzling Display + Dreadful Carnage is what you are looking for. Cornugash? smash is single target only.
