Least favorite are: Woljiff (he's a cocky little ♥♥♥♥ who only cares for himself), Daeran (he's entertaining at first but the snarky effete noble act wears thin pretty quick), Regill (sometimes I wonder whose side he's on), and of course Camellia - something feels off about her since the beginning, plus she's even more arrogant and snotty than Daeran. I'd dismiss/get rid of them, but can't help feeling I'll miss content if I do.
Least favorite is easily Camelia. It can feel like she was written specifically to be a subversion on the redeemable companion. She just doesn't feel well written.
That Camellia encounter in act3 pushed me over the edge though. It was at that point I had to mute all of the voice acting. It was like a teacher reading a story to their 3rd Grade class. It's not even acting. It's narrating.
Haven't even bothered with Daeran.
Regill - I hate his personal quest, but otherwise, I appreciate his pragmatism and calling out some of the things that should be called out (like our spymaster's incompetence...even though I like Anevia). Incredible VA.
Sosiel - All-around nice guy and great example of neutral good (even tries to ease the pain of a demon). Generally, tries to get along with everyone. Fully trust him and great VA.
Arueshalae - Biased because Azata is my favorite path, but good redemption story and one of the better personal quests.
Least favorites:
Ember - Kind of a writer's pet/Mary Sue-lite with some holes in her personal story. Childish mindset is never really addressed and seems like just a way to make her endearing.
Lann - Not terrible, but the Marvel quips and the VA combined....ugh.
Daeran - His snark and hedonist attitude is just trying way too hard and feels clumsy and not well-written. See Dragon Age for a good example of how to make this work. VA does not do it for me.
Yeah, Regill actually wasn't bad. I just went back to Woljif for some reason.
That Lann 'quest' in Act 3. omg. Cringe.
Coding is so hard... so time consuming... so soul sucking (I'm speaking from personal experience, ymmv), it's just disappointing to see their work squandered by over the top juvenile, SoCal dialog in a fantasy, medieval helliverse.
My beef is not just with this game, but many that I've seen and played as of late.
But whatever... I guess I'm just hangry.
Hands you a Snickers Candy Bar!
He's about to eat steel. Hellknights, to arms!
I think it's a scumbag thing to do.
But that's water under the bridge — we all make mistakes.
Shut your trap
And I have a whole spiel about how VERY useful Camellia is. Too bad about her... personality.
I think I least like Greybor. He's just... bland to me. And that's before you get to his gameplay vs story dissonance.
I also don't tend to like Sosiel. He feels boring to me even though he shouldn't be.
Ulbrig Olesk. Those Entrances!
Least:
Camellia. Ugh, she almost makes Daeran look good
My prince & pauper couple (which also get quite fun interactions with each other):
Daeran: A charismatic character with sass and tragic backstory. And then haunted by a supernatural otherwordly being. Count me in. He is a member of my party since the moment of meeting and I never felt sorry for that. His final quest is also great (and involves a hard moral choice). Luckily, he always got out safe and sound from it in my games (with or without a trial).
Woljif: the voice actor did an amazing job. Another witty character with a tragic backstory. With a demonic element. Yes. Trickster characters are also my favourite. That being said, he definitely deserves his quest to be resolved the good way. He is a good lad, albeit a bit misdirected. Also excellent for disarming traps and dealing significant damage (in most situations)
Least favourite:
Regill: he is dry as a desert. No humour. Just duty. I get it, this makes him funny and interesting in his own way but not the way I enjoy. He is also probably the character I use the least. That being said, if he turns against you in Act 3 he delivers an amazing fight, which is worth experiencing at least once
Nenio: something did not work with her for me. I like trickster characters but... she was missing something. I do not dislike him too much, her quest was decent (despite being hated by many players)... I guess she is kind of uneventful. It is hard to explain why.
Notes on characters who fall in neither of the two groups:
(Camellia is very dislikable character but she kind of works as a test how much my characters have fallen (or not); that makes her interesting for me; it is still a very uncomfortable partnership)
(Arueshalae was a little bit disappointing; they might have put a little bit more darkness in her while she is fighting her demonic nature; Still she is in the middle of my chart but she does look iike a missed opportunity, in my eyes.)
Heh, I'd actually forgotten about Greybor. I think he's supposed to be the "rough mercenary with a good heart underneath" type but tbh he just came off as annoyingly self-centered to me.
I heard about Wenduag having a good story arc, but tbh I never took her in my party after the prologue "reveal" since I never did an evil playthrough.
Lann is also just way too useful and flexible to skip on.
Ember annoys me, though I also like her story.
Seelah and Ulbrig are favorites based on just their character.
Who I like the least is probably Sosiel and Arue. I can't say I like Camellia the least because I enjoyed my first playthrough with her so much, but after going through her story once, there is no longer any reason to have her around.
