Good class for throught the ashen and lord of nothing?
What class do you think would be best for core difficulty.

I am thinking of a pet class because pets dont need gear to kill and can act as meatshields but i like a second opinion.

I useally play wizards so something that gets me out of my comferd zone is a bonus.

Through the ashes is kind of grindy. You need something that will be good a low levels. If you don't mind spoilers This isn't that much of a spoiler but you won't have access to any equipment in the early game. So a class like a pet class is good. I remember playing with a cavailer and I kept thinking how stupid it looked to have a horse indoors but how powerful it was. Lord of nothing goes to higher levels. Lord of nothing end in level 10 and you can get to level 5 by the end of through the ashes. You are like level 1 or 2 for the first two areas so you are a really low level. Also if I'm not mistaken you have less point buy to signify that you are weaker. At least it felt like you had less stats. It will take forever but you might want to get that possible cleric companion that they give you as a default. The reason being is that lesser restoration when it comes online at the 3rd level might help you out a bit or rather some npcs. In lord of nothing there is the main character plus 3 npcs that are locked in your party. You can multiclass but they are a sorceror, rogue, and bard. That is if you want to plan your party accordingly. The rogue has a cheaty type origin that is better than you can get in the game and I'm jealous.

Monks and Kineticists most likely.

You are really strapped for the gear you want. In the first area there is almost nothing. A torch is the strongest weapon you get. In the second area you can get more items but are really strapped. In the third area you get some more and finally a suit of full plate. In the four area you fight cultists and are able to get the mundane gear that you want. This is for through the ashes.

Also they need to update things. The main campaign starts crashing, at least it did for me, if you try to upload your lord of nothing save into the game. Though you can just choose not to upload it and everything is fine. It is okay with uploading through the ashes into the game. The stand alones are fine. I put this elsewhere but beware the shadow dungeon. You need 2 lamps because it is bugged. At least it was for me.

Pet class that can have a Leopard is probably strongest. Not only are pets very strong at low levels but they also remove -ve effects on rest. In the first few areas there are a lot of narrow spaces so a smaller pet is good.

Another possibility is a hex based class. Unlimited slumber is going to be strong.

Kineticist are also great for this!

doesnt matter much, just play what u enjoy, people tend to do the mistake to select the difficulty first, then the class they want to play, you have to remember that this DLC is very low on ressources and group power, your party is weak, so dont torture yourself by choosing a class that is not only not the most powerful but also dependent on gear, i would say try core and if u feel like it is too hard just lower the difficulty to daring or something like that

I am aware.
I have beaten it on wizard before(core difficulty)
I just wanted too see what idea's people had.
So for keneticist or a pet class.

Meaby my next playthrought shoud be a druid.
When i get the merc's i should make them all druid.
I mean druid party makes the game easy.

Kineticist was the only thing I could get through it with.. Monk would be my 2nd option

two lamps tend to cancel each other out, and they need constant reactivation.. I reported this bug on week 1, and nothing was done. It may be better to just use a single lamp

I did the the DLCs with a magus swordsaint as my main character, Core difficulty. Funny thing was, i choose to spec in Falcata at creation. Didn't got one until the very end of "Through the ashes".

But i managed.

As for the 3 mercenary you recruit, i made a hunter (divine hunter) with a bow and a pet leopard, an oracle (sacred herbalist, for the heal) and a fighter (mutation warrior) with sword and shield.

I kept Sendri as a basic sorcerer and Rekarth as a rogue, but choosed to spec him in ranged weapons.

The fighter was a great help, since you have the opportunity to get a full plate armor once you finish the 3rd area of Through the ashes : barring natural 20, most ennemies couldn't hit him.

Lord of nothing was a walk in the park, compared to Through the ashes. I don't know if it's because you got way more stuff to equip yourself or simply because the ennemies are underleveled compared to you, but honestly ... even the boss encounters where easy.

For me one lamp did absolutely nothing. I didn't stop taking damage until lamp 2.

Hmm as far as classes go I though "Though The Ashes" and "Lord Of Nothing" an Traditional Monk worked rather well for me.

I think that the whole thing you need to worry about is a class that will get you past the tremendous centipede. Because of lack of gear and level I think that is the hardest opponent to beat in the dlc. This is of course considering that you have a whole other dungeon. I think that if you decide you don't care about having all the npcs live I guess it gets a lot easier.
MMJ Feb 12, 2024 @ 5:12pm
You can still use the tar barrel to help against the centipede, by throwing an alchemist fire in it, but the timing is tricky (one of the rare time i had to play without "turn based mode" to manage it).
