Is having Greybor worth the money?
I'm just into Act 3, I run into Greybor in a Tavern, I start reading up on him and the quests related to him. I'm thinking I would like the XP from those quests. But you have to spend so much money on him. Is it worth it? (P.S., maybe I have a bit of Scottish DNA in me ...)
Also, where in heck do I find Irabeth?

Money is no issue in the game, by last chapter you will have so much money but there isn't anything left to buy.

You can hire him for the xp. After doing that quest. If you like to use him permanently you can choose to pay him double the amount he ask for.

more xp means leveling up faster.... which im always down for....

but his final quest also gives a really good staff...

fiery spell weaver quarterstaff...

This +5 flaming burst quarterstaff grants its wearer a +1 bonus to CL, +4 bonus on checks made to overcome spell resistance and a +15 competence bonus on Use Magic Device skill checks.

though I never really thought he cost too much to hire.... of course im a loot-a-holic pretty much so I pick up everything and sell what I dont need....

Irabeth if she's not in the courtyard to do your intro update will be in the throne room with the rest of the council. Also I think Greybor is worth it because I love him, and money quickly becomes something you get a lot of from vendoring act III gear

His crusade unit options are usually pretty good so definitely worth the relatively minor amount of money. As a companion for your party he usually doesn't make the cut for me though.

I got an answer for where to find Irabeth, and 3/3 replies telling me to get Greybor and don't worry about the money. Thanks for the replies; my questions are answered.

You don't have to pay him double what he asks for, unless you are feeling generous. It costs 2500 gold to hire him to go with you to kill the dragon, and the 12500 to get him to join your party after the mission is finished.

He does have a cool quest in Chapter 4, but for me the best reason is that you need him to level up your cavalry to Hedge Knights, which IMO are the best cav. You don't get the choice if he is not in the council when you have to make the decision.

TLDR: Absolutely worth it for a wide variety of reasons.

Bit late but from what I recall, he gives you a pretty neat upgrade to your cavalry, a unique item later in the game and is more or less a blender on legs. I built mine as a freebooter/slayer and I remember him just shredding things in melee.

My first playthrough I didn't have the cash on hand to take take his exclusive contract. It lead to an interesting encounter.
