Knowledge arcana, perception, and knowledge nature are also worth putting trick points into.
Story wise it's silly, but that's to be expected.
So mechanic wise it's super powerful but story wise it's rather silly and entertaining?
yep trickster are supposed to be jokers of the universe and bending all rules to their liking
Basically the can cheat on die rols
Pretty much. Oh, and Crusade wise you get options to earn extra gold and increase generals' XP. The one thing you should be aware of is one of the Crusade abilities lets spells not function as intended occasionaly.
You can also choose to not indulge in some of the story-driven silliness if you so choose. The Act V showdown at Drezen is hilarious if you indulge it, though. Oh, and when you do the Greybor Act V companion quest, there is a dialogue option that lets you make Hepzamirah or whatever nauseated for the fight.
Makes casters better, makes melees better, most Chaotic-aligned answers are fun and well written, the story is goofy and funny, removes some enemies from the game entirely.
Storywise, the Trickster features a certain character from the Kingmaker campaign (but not the one that first comes into your mind). It also has the best paybacks and these retributions sometimes go over the top. I generally speaking like it, though the most satisfying ending is achieving Ascension. It is not as stupid or buffoonish as some people claim. I think some of the jokes can go quite dark. Towards the end of the game, I had the feeling my character had lost much of his sanity.
Mechanically wise, I played as a dhampir dirge bard. I did not get anything major in the early game but towards the end, I almost felt like a god. Trickster is one of the two mythic paths where you can fight a particularly powerful demon lord that is otherwise unavailable for a fight. Some of the bosses have been made immune towards a certain instant death ability of the trickster, so yes, the path has been nerfed slightly.
For later levels, after the mythic persuasion trick, I strongly advise "completely normal spell" metamagic feat that would allow you to use the other nuke in the Trickster's arsenal called "trick fate" spell also with a 5th level spell slot.
