Best/most fun paladin subclass?
I'm very new to this game, and it's my first CRPG, I'm still learning. Gonna restart my paladin run, since I made some major errors when I made the last one.

Which paladin is the most user friendly and fun, and maybe best for roleplay too? I like the idea of Divine Guardian, Warrior of the Holy Light, and Hospitaler... Or just a regular paladin. What about 2 handed vs sword and shield? Did sword and shield last time, but wondering if two handed would be better or more fun. Planning on going with Divine Weapon Bond over a mount, mainly for roleplay reasons.

It has been a while since I have played, but maybe just normal paladin. The reason is because if memory serves a lot of subclasses or archetypes miss out on mark of judgement or whatever it is called that gives everyone smite. There is one that loses spell casting. You might not want that one. I think there is one that give extra saves against death effects but I don't remember completely. I don't know about the new archetypes off the top of my head. Seelah was always good enough.

EDIT: If you want easy mode get the animal companion over divine bond. I shy away from animal companions myself because they are too strong.

That's what I'll do, seems like a safe pick.

An easier game the first run would be nice but I think I like the divine bond more for roleplay purposes. Thank you.

Playing without Mark of Justice is not fun, because you can't help the team to hit enemies. Thus Divine Hunter, Hospitaler, Stonelord, Divine Scion are OUT.

Playing without Divine Grace is not fun, because when you have high saves it's very good feeling. So Martyr is OUT.

That leave you with base Paladin, Divine Guardian, and Warrior of the Holy Light. Last one clearly is a support, and supporting is not fun, so WotHL is OUT.

See, devs made such hard of a decision process for you - pick between base Paladin and Divine Guardian. First one is versatile and can cast few spells, second one is a good tank due to Divine Troth (+4 AC for the cost of one of your AoOs per round).

I enjoyed the archer valiant.
Normal Paladin is an amazing class, and the Attacks of Opportunity system makes big crunchy two-handers extremely powerful. Live out your WoW Retribution Paladin fantasies and start swinging around a Divine Bonded Earthshaker!

The only Paladin I'd seriously consider playing as is the Stonelord. What's not to love about playing a dwarf who slowly becomes a walking slap of rock? It being so different in both flavor and abilities to barely even count as Paladin is a BIIIIIG plus in my book.

It's just a tragedy Owlcat didn't gave them shorty'dins their rightful, ever growing Earth Elemental sidekick. Who needs a mount anyway if a walking mountain has your back.
