Is level cap 40 or 20?

I am confused. I see YouTube walkthroughs reaching level 40 by end game having multiclassed two full classes.

Legend Mythic Path allows your main character to become level 40 and companions capped at 20. Other mythic paths cap you at 20 levels + 10 Mythic levels.

Level cap is 20 but there is one mythic path that exchanges mythic powers to get a level cap of 40 instead.

I took the dragon mythic path. I reached threshold and beat all enemies to enter the darkness. Inside I am stuck half way, I can’t beat a group of 4 enemies which two of them spam strong fire and tusnami spells 😫
I am level 19 on daring difficulty
