why in god's name is there no way to buy healing potions before the grey garrison?
been playing for a few hours and near as I can tell, There's no way to obtain potions other than looting. I'm trying to do the grey garrison but get butchered because I have all of two potions to get me though countless battles. Is there something I'm missing? Why am I hours in and there's still seemingly no way to get even the most basic kind of healing potion?

I see. but what does that matter? unless you're playing optimized which is not something i want to do on a first playthough, odds are you're going to need to buy some potions between leaving the underground and getting though grey's garrison. What good is a vendor that's only in the neathers going to do when I need potions 10 hours later? Is there seriously no potion vendor at all other than dyra in the early game?

What are you on about? Gemyl Hawkes, the bartender in the Defender's Heart -- which is your main base for the entire act -- sells nearly 60 potions across various sizes.

Then, in that same establishment the cleric Vissaliy sells another 30 cure scrolls across various sizes.

The next vendor sells:
35 light potions
22 medium potions
12 serious potions

isnt this a case of you not bothering to look at buying potions from any vendor, then complaining that you ran out?

not to mention i have 64 light healing potions in my inventory, and 5 medium healing potions. Also a healing wand with 15 charges (i think). I havent even gone anywhere yet.

THere's a Wand of Cure Light wounds with 15 charges off the beaten path in the caves. It's just after getting the Angel Sword. Behind a Mobility check, IIRC.

The main takeaway from this for me is that you overspent your healing resources. You're supposed to use spells and resting as well to regain health, not just pots. Pots are a limited resource that should be used, but used sparingly.

And in addition to that, the first time in the Grey Garrison is like 3 combat encounters where you have the crusaders and Irabeth soaking damage for you. Should be pretty doable even without pots if you just let them carry the aggro.

Guy complains about no healing potions, ignores the merchants that sell them lmao.

Also it is cheaper to buy healing scrolls, they are generally about 50% that of the potions costs, from the arcane/divine merchant in the Tavern.

Cleric Channeling positive energy is the superior healing, if you have Sosiel
Seelah can do it at a higher level too
Daeran too.
In tough fights I have them auto channel

However potions are good in a pinch, but take time to drink. Rather have my cleric and support take care of the healing

Pretty sure you can't get Uselessiel, er, Sosiel until after the Grey Garrison ...

He was one of my more powerful characters at higher level. Tank Cleric two hander
Channeling in the front lines
I know people swear Daeran is better for that but
But sorry I'm guilty of skimming so didn't realize where OP was
I'm doing Lich path this time so I think positive energy wont be my friend

Short answer; Because it's not Diablo. (Which is why you can still buy potions but apparently not enough for the way you chug them down.)
Spells and potions are to be used strategically in this game, not spammed.

No, they are meant to be spammed, they are all over the game and the game tips encourages it. The OP is wrong and complained about something he didn't even look for.

Wait, people actually buy potions? They kind of drop like candy in chapter 1.

I honestly can't recall buying any on any of my playthroughs before Grey Garrison. And I usually drink them quite a bit at that point in the game to avoid resting before the inn thing.
