Regill animal companion build.

Ever since the first pathfinder game I have always loved running with a pet heavy party. So I have been building one in WOTR as well. Even without a guide I could see that it would be effective to spec Regill into Sacred Huntsman. The problem is, that your pet will always be 2 levels too low even with the "Boon Pet" feat.

A guide says to take the mythic feat of "impossible Domain" and grab the animal domain. Since you already have a pet from Sacred Huntsman, how does the "Animal Domain" mythic feat help with his pet?

Unlike Sacred Huntsman, Animal Domain is not a class - it is a feat adds animal domain to your class and that particular domain -among other things - provides for a pet/mount from level 1 on - therefore the animal keeps up with your level, without even the need for "boon pet".

I understand that, but the "animal domain is linked to the sacred huntsman class not the one level of Hellknight or five levels of fighter that he already has. In fact you can't even select "impossible domain" UNTIL after you have picked a class that has a domain such as sacred huntsman. I just double checked and the "impossible domain" skill was still blocked out. Since the Sacred huntsman gets an animal at level 1, you are compensating for the other classes he already has.

I even just ran a respec again, following the instructions of using sacred huntsman, boon pet AND Impossible Domain (animal domain) and it is no different in the animals level than not wasting a mythic feat to get animal domain. The Godclaw "domain" doesn't seem to register as a domain when either trying to select "Impossible Domain" or adding the benefit of Impossible Domain to count his levels that are not in Sacred Huntsman.

I am running the GOG version 2.1.1i, is that the same as the current steam version?

If you're not against running mods, I would suggest to grab Tabletop Tweaks (Core+Base), which adds a feat to get an animal companion. No domains or multiclassing necessary, any character can take it.

Fwiw, a couple levels lost on the pet doesn't really cause any problems, at least on Core or below. My current Core game I've given Regill levels in Hunter after his default levels and his pet Raptor is doing just fine in terms of AC or hitting enemies despite being a couple levels behind.

It was just my insane OCD kicking in. I was playing the game about 6 months ago, before I upgraded my box and thought I remembered being able to have Regills' pet level the same as his character level. Maybe there was a balancing patch, or maybe I am more senile than I thought.
On normal level pets are seriously OP, and as pointed out it is easy to install a mod or just roll with it.

If you want to play mounted regill, i would recommend you make him a gendarme. He needs alot of feats and gendarme is the one pet class that gives you the most feats on level up.

Or you can do what I usually do and make sure to pick up the Triceratops Statuette during the Drezen battle and have Regil riding Bismuth from that moment onward.

Well regil is a little to high of a level to get a complete level 20 pet. You used to be able to have 5 other levels, and then boon companion would make up for that. Regil starts with 5 armiger, and 1 hellknight.

So his pet build will be a little lacking because of the hellknight level. Still he is in a great position for a pet build anyways. 5 armiger, 1 hellknight, 1 beast cav, 13 Sohei. Pet of choice is either a boar for AC, or a raptor for damage. Since he gets wpn training with armiger, it will carry over into sohei.
