Attack while mounted
Does your horse attack with you, when you attack the enemy with your weapon on it?

Currently, to prevent enemies from killing my horse, I build it as a tank. If it will attack with me, I'm thinking of whether I should build some dmg on it too.

If it's in range it will attack. If you are wielding a reach or ranged weapon and stay at that range the horse will not attack since it is not in range.

Yes. The horse also attacks. If you are close to your target then your horse uses its move action to attack so it takes full round on attack. If you far then based on how far are you it either attacks once or none.

in turn based it can be a little tricky.... for instance having Seelah on horse during a surprise round im unable to charge with Seelah on horse... however... I can click on the horse portrait and use the charge from the horse instead which will allow them both to charge and attack...

also I tend to have the horse toggled to charge and Seelah to not have charge toggled... thats the setup that works best I find for me...

My horse works just fine with a reach weapon.

If you walk in range then yes. If the horse attacks while out of range then that's a bug.

Do you guys build your horses as tank or fighter?

I think most people build their animal companions as tanks so their rider doesn't have to. While mounted the mount AC counts while being attacked rather than the riders. If you have a wolf or dog, then those might be more useful being offensive because of their automatic trip attacks.

my horses are bulwark and have highest AC of all my party members pretty quickly.... also at a certain point I dont have them wear armor and instead give them mage armor.... cause their Dex starts getting higher than the normal armor can keep up... also give them crane style feats to boost it up even more.....

I always take daredevil class so you get immunity to flanking. For my horses especially, I go all in on crane style fighting defensively, since horse ac isn't very good

What do you consider good AC?

If it can attack, yes, do note if you moved with the horse during the turn it won't do a full attack though. And if you do a charge the rider won't do a full attack.

What is considered good ac depends on the level you're at. but the horse has about 5 base ac less than typical animal companion
