Precision damage question
How much is precision damage mitigated in the late game? Thinking about an arcane trickster build, but like a lot of people, I have rerollitis and have rarely been that far into the game to know how bad my build might go wrong in late game.

Mobs immune to sneak attacks are pretty rare.

But, DR is applied seperately against precision damage. And if your weapon ignores DR, it still gets applied against precision damage. Not sure how that works with spell damage with arcane trickster. Most DR I think I have seen on a creature was 25 on a boss, but a lot have DR 10.

You mean Sneak Attack damage on Rays? That's a good question. What's the sneak attacks damage type on Rays? If it's elemental, Ascended Element will make this a non-issue when it comes to DR. As for precision damage immunities, they're usually caused by buffs and can be dispelled.

word of note.... if you use metamagic bolster on a spell it changes to no longer apply precision damage so no sneak attack on bolstered spells...

The only creatures you fight that should be immune to precision damage are swarms, incorporeal Undead, and elementals. The majority of the enemies in the game are demons. They take crits like everyone else.

At least on unfair, a number of bosses have immunity to sneak attack damage. So do certain demon types (some? Gallus, all shadow demons) including some of the most annoying demons in the last dungeon. That said it works on most enemies.

From an optimization perspective, sneak attack on rays is not really worth it as I believe it doesn't stack with metamagic? That said you will be fine on most difficulties with sufficient knowledge of the system.

Sneak attack damage on rays is definitely worth it. Watch ascended element (fire) with scorching ray, every ray adds sneak attack damage to each ray. So an arcane trickster can do obscene damage with ray spells.
