Main Character Skill Checks
Skill checks perform during conversations confuse me sometimes. Most of the time, you will automatically utilize the skill check of whoever in your party has the highest value in that skill, as makes sense. But every now and then, you run into skill checks which for some reason can only be performed by your main character, and only check their value for that given skill. While this isn't a problem in and of itself, which skill checks fall into this 'main character only' category feel incredibly arbitrary, random almost. Addressing the troops as their commanding officer allows you to substitute someone else in your party's persuasion skill (not sure how that works, is this a ghost writer thing?), where as talking to a ghost and asking them to tell you their story can for some reason only be accomplished by the Knight Commander. I'm not opposed to some checks being main character only, to reward builds that have lots of skills. But I wish there was at least some logic put into the choices of which checks are in which category.

I'm not sure if there are any checks that are actually restricted to your main character. I've come across a few places where only the main character's values are displayed when previewing a check, but they will actually use your party members for the roll as usual.

Well, there are occasions where only the main character is present ... at least for those you can only use their skills.

In general, yeah it's nice to have your party's skill available, on the other hand it doesn't make sense in a conversation. It's not mentioned anywhere that your companions nudge you and then whisper something to you, which really goes over well with aggressive or suspicious NPC, I'd imagine ...

And yes, it makes even less sense when suddenly you don't have that input for some reason you can't grasp.

There's definitely a few that are MC only. The one that stands out to me is during while hunting down the Dragon. Need to use the MC's Perception to impress Greybor. I know there was one before that as well.

I am sure that such checks take place in act 4, when the commander leads the ship through the Abyss. Nearly all skill checks except diplomacy and intimidation (my character's skills) failed.

Generally it is a very good idea to have charisma and persuasion on your main character if you absolutely want to beat intimidate/diplomacy/persuasion checks. Sometimes perception can be also useful I think.

Just remember it is not required, Outcome is just different. You can happily fail throws and go on with your life.
