Can't Choose Winter Witch?

I have 1 level in Witch. Why isn't it letting me choose Witch spellbook here?!

I'd guess it has to be the Witch spellbook that's level 3. If it was letting you pick the Wizard spellbook previously, I'd say that sounds like an exploit and an unintended behaviour.

You didn't.

Winter Witch needs third spell level of either the Witch or Shaman spellbook. Plus the obvious Frost spirit or Winter patron class features.

A Scroll Savant 5 / Elemental Witch 1 fails to qualify.

Actually, one more level in scroll savant would do it. It's third level spells of any type that qualify you.

It's a lot easier to make Ember into a winter witch, honestly. One level in shaman for the "Frost" patron, level 6 in Stigmatized Witch (with 5 ranks in Arcane Lore skill) and bob's your uncle.

actually according to that image.... their a level 5 wizard... 1 level elemental witch.. and trying to be a winter witch at 7.... and a level 5 wizard CAN cast level 3 spells... its spontaneous casters that have delayed progression like your thinking... they dont get level 3 spells till their level 6...

See now what confuses me, is usually you can't even select a Prestige class and move forward unless you qualify for it. The other ones were all red, but Winter Witch was unlocked for Nenio when I went forward with this. It just got stuck on the last step, it honestly feels like a bug.

It works for ember because she's a witch. The game only checks for arcane spell lv 3 and frost/winter at first. But when you get into the winter witch it's actually looking for a shaman or witch spellbook at lv 3, and won't find any on that nenio because it's a lv 1 shaman spellbook.

IMO getting ember to get winter witch when she should not because she doesn't have her shaman spellbook at lv 3 is kind of a bug. That wouldn't stand in a pnp session.

Maybe, the whole prestige class req is pretty monky in wotr anyway. In pnp the class requires a witch patron (shaman spirits don't qualify, winter witch is exclusive to witches), so stigmated witch would be out anyway since the archetype doesn't have a patron.

In pnp only the Winter Witch "archetype" qualifies for the Winter Witch "prestige class", given that the latter requires a feature unique to said archetype (Ice Magic). As far as legal patrons go, this archetype allows for Ancestors, Deception, Enchantment, Endurance, Moon, Occult, Portents, Stars, Transformation, Trickery, Water, Winter, or Wisdom. Here it only matters to have the ability to cast 3rd level cold spells.

Owlcat "loosened" their take on the prestige class requirement up to allow all Witch archetypes with access to the Winter patron to enter. And as a bonus also let Shamans with access the Frost spirit in as well. Both single classes qualify if they can cast 3rd level spells and have the class feature needed. No need for dips.

nenio already has levels in scroll savant, multiclassing her into witch, just to go winter witch is going to stunt her caster level.
she's gonna end up cl5 wizard/ cl15 witch and never get access to 9th level spells.(?)

it seems like winter witch would be better on Mc or a merc that you can build them from level 1, the way you want.

although, i wonder if a 1 level dip into crossblood sorceror and then taking silver and white dragon would make you more effective.

The Winter Witch spellbook is, above all, a WITCH spellbook. It won't combine with any flavor of wizard spellbook, only with Witch or Shaman.

You can still take the WW PC, it will just have its own separate spellbook, and it won't be very high level spells...ever.

I probably should not have given her any Wizard levels first...maybe I can respec that part. Thanks everyone! I guess I need 3 levels in Witch, not 1, and the interface is just buggy so I didn't realize that at first.
