In a mechanics way: Kingmaker. It's simpler. But it's also a worse videogame.
Wrath is much more enjoyable to actually play.

boths are superb games but I like the npc more in kingmaker and the story

Both games are great and storywise, you can play them in either order.

Gameplaywise I think you'll find it easier to play kingmaker first. And learning the systems there will make Wrath much easier to get into afterwards.

Either really. It's still the same underlying pf1e system underneath.

Hopefully the next game is based on Pathfinder 2e though

It's a lot of little annoyances and bad design decisions like having timed quests and so on.
Plus the kingdom management system is in my opinion pure garbage, that you sadly can't just ignore. You can put it on auto but you will still need to wait for events to trigger and all that. I just can't stand it.

Kingmaker have a lot pro's compared to Wrath, like timed quests, you can't always just strudle along and abuse the rest mechanic because time mathers, while in wrath it hardly matters at all.
Both are good games, but if you are entierlty new to RPG then a game like Pillars of Eternity might be better(while not based on Pathfinder), as the character building is not as important.

I started with Kingmaker and I'd start with it in your shoes, too. Wotr is set afterwards and some characters reappear. Its not needed, but nice. Also, learning the system is easier in Kingmaker, which is still very, very, very complex. I really liked the characters back then, and I'm one of those that liked the kingdom system. However, you need to calculate a lot of time for either game. 150-200h if you're a fast reader.

If you want to learn how the Tabletop game works, start with Kingmaker. WOTR uses Mythic Levels, which are an optional rule and results in much more powerful characters. In Kingmaker, you're an adventurer. In WOTR, you're a demigod.

Kingmaker is better as a first game combat rule wise. But it's harder for a beginner management wise because of the events and the timers. On the opposite, the crusade management in wotr is easier and ther eare no hard timers, but being a mythic campaign, it can become a struggle very quickly even on normal if you don't know the rules (because demons are still stupidly strong opponents).

Personally, I like Kingmaker just as much as WOTR, and Kingmaker is, frankly, easier. So I would recommend starting with Kingmaker :)

WOTR is my recommendation, mainly because I really didn't love my time with the Kingmaker. Just a bunch of small QoL things that constantly annoyed me, where I'm approaching 300 hours in WOTR.

I imagine in game design they learned a lot, but im not sure about Kingmaker but WOTR (maybe both) have a huge amount of customisation in the difficulty settings which is great. So while you are learning either one, you can change the settings to suit what you're enjoying/finding frustrating.

i'd have to say Wrath is better for beginners.... just cause I never played kingmaker lol.... and I love wrath... I find it easy to get into the swing of things in this game with no prior experience with kingmaker...

but I also have experience with 3.5 DnD soo.... not hard for me to "settle" in this game...
