Does resting effect the story at all?
Does it matter how often one rests, several classes relies upon resting quite often, other classes does not. But will it affect the game in any way, or could one just abuse the system by throwing evry spell in evry fight and then just rest without any consequences?

There's no consequences beyond having to rebuff after each rest and dealing whit abysal corruption.

Thanks for the information, the game just got a lot less interesting because of that :/

WotR is far more lenient in this regard than Kingmaker was. Latter had an actual time schedule you had to adhere to.

Abyssal corruption itself can be pretty severe in its late stages. In particular for arcane casters due to the huge spell failure chance. As far as resting affecting story outcomes goes: there is one during act 1.

Indeed, it was one of the things I realy did like with Kingmaker.

Only in Kenbares it matters for the story.

If you are too late in the burning library the knight of the flaming lance are burned.
If you are too late in the tower of esterod you will not meet the dwarven mecenary there.
If you are too late in rescuing ramien and the other desna follower, they will not join your crusade.
If you rest to much you cannot avoid the tavern fight.

As a precision, all of that is tied to the attack on the tavern, the attack occurs after 3 rest attempts, counting from you're first day at the tavern. And I mean attempts, even if you don't rest, every time you click on the rest button, it counts for one, so as long as you do all of those before before 3 days, it's good, there is also a hidden boss in the market that will spawn after the tavern fight if you did something before the fight, in the market

Also you get some items from the queen based on the speed that you retake Drezen with at the end of act 2, so resting during the siege is ill advised if you want the full reward.

The secret ending is also time gated.

is that just during the siege or the whole of Act 2?...

I think it's based on the amount of days it takes to capture Drezen , i remember her giving me a Ring of Protection +4 once.

I believe you need to reach Drezen within 60 days for the timed requirement, but if you have few losses and high morale when you get there you still get 2 of the 3 required points for having pleased the queen. She only requires you to meet 2 out of 3 to check the flag for pleasing her. The timer begins when you leave the city and the crusade officially starts.

As for the secret ending bit, I won't spoil much but I will say there is no year requirement on that one, only day and month far as "timers" go so don't stress that one either.

Rest away - it takes me over a week to clear out Drezen - no one seems to mind :)

Yes that's right, you're told in lore that a particular year is needed but there's a long-standing exploit where you can arrive during a different year and still get the secret ending.
