No I wish, its an ACTUAL mechanic in game where if you roll a 1 on a locked chest your doomed and cannot open the chest.

That's a good mechanic for a RPG.

Thats what a stuffy fat mc donalds eating 40 year old dungeon master that likes to hurt his players to feel like a man would say... is that what the dude who coded lockpicking is? Because that seems to be what your alluding to.

Nope, that's just the proper effect for a critical failure.
This is roleplaying, not the happy world of Disney.

Are you playing on Last Azlanti? If not, you could always quick load. You could also use Toy Box to always roll 20 outside of combat. If you feel like either of those are cheating, I think there is an ability in the game that lets you take 10 on skill checks (advanced rogue talent - Skill Master?). There's also a mythic ability that called "Always a Chance" which makes it so that rolling a 1 isn't a critical failure (though that might only apply to attack rolls).

That all items in the chest are effectively lost? Only in YOUR magical world of Disney is that fair and accessable. Weighted against what fails mean EVERYWHERE else in the game is OP and its a super dumb idea. The only reason im not playing this game anymore..

Take a bow.

I had always roll 20 ON and THIS fuc k ary STILL managed to bug up the chest. IDIOT Devs. JUST WOW!

Yeah that seems right

Rolls 1 in:
combat: swing and a miss!
skills: didnt make the check
social: didnt convince them sad face!

Lockpicking: Holy avenger +4 destroyed forever...

You absolute idiots.

Take a bow.

Chest is jammed, you cannot access to hit. That's just normal.
And if you try to break a chest, that's normal items in it get broken and useless.
Raistlin Mar 19, 2023 @ 12:07am
If you had always roll 20 on, then this shouldn't have happened. If you know the contents of the chest, which it seems you do, just add it to your inventory with Toy Box and move on. Also, Holy Avenger +4? Are you talking about Radiance? Which chest even was this? Which shadow demon?

Its normal that there is a CHANCE that the items break.

I had roll 20 always on and it still failed no idea how. Im just using the idea that valuable loot could be in containers and are lost to nothing more than rolling a 1.. its ridiculous its not in balance with rolling a 1 for other skills. It screams of a dev who just insisted that the game be a certian way with nothing to back the reasoning.

Its ridiculous.
Where is any means via bag of tricks or mods to even reverse this. Seems like the dev is complete in their means to control this as well as there is no way to reverse it. I can have god mode but I cannot un jam a lock with even dev tools it reeks so bad of 1 dev with a bad idea and too much influence wow is it a bad idea.

Don't know what to say man. That's never happened to me, and I have over 700 hours in the game. Didn't even remember that you could jam a lock or bash locks in this game. If you're not playing on Last Azlanti, I recommend you quick save before and after opening a locked container. However, if you have always roll 20 outside of combat the lock never should have been jammed. If your last save is far enough back that it's too much hassle, go to "Search and Pick" tab of Toy Box and add "Wicked Longbow". Pretty sure that was the most significant thing in there.

Also, grab "Skill Mastery - Stealth and Trickery" on your trickery toon to avoid this in the future without having to rely on Toy Box. Or keep using Toy Box. It'd be nice to see a screenshot of the combat log where the lock was jammed. I'm curious as to how you got a critical failure by rolling a 20. Must be some crazy edge case, because I've never heard of anything like it before.
Brother Santodes Mar 19, 2023 @ 1:05am
well 1 doesn't jam it because that's not how skills work.
you can have a 100 % to unlock every lock in this game you just need the trickery skill to match the game even tells you the chance.

locks can also be jammed with a number higher than 1.

on the other hand you are talking with someone playing with god mode so well...

How does jamming work then? I can't remember having a lock jam on me, so I went in game and used Toy Box to force my character to roll a 1, and it jammed. Unless you're talking about how each character gets one attempt until their skill is raised?
