Hmmm - should the above work on a shapeshifter who's err shifted ? Ulbrig just got hit - whilst in Griffon form

Shapeshifting won't turn you into said creature type. You just assume a similar shape. A copy, basically. It's the base creature type which counts for spells.

There is that arcane thing that adds natural armor and turns you into a plant... maybe that would help?

I'm not familiar with that specific thing, but pretty much all shapechanging effects do not change your creature type. And spells target that specific creature type. So the characters will still be humanoids regardless of what shape they are in. Looking like a bear or a plant doesn't make you a bear or a plant.

Also IIRC nature mystery oracle - the capstone also changes your type too (or I think it does)

Some archetypes do change your basic creature type as well.

Hagbound turns you into a monstrous humanoid (who are also immune to Hold Person) at 20th level. Monks become outsiders at 20th level, while Student of Stone becomes an outsider with the earth subtype. Tranquil Whisperer becomes an outsider as well during their capstone.
