Time limit on anything in game?
I just started my first play through and made it to the first city after fighting my way out of the prologue area. Loving the game so far.

Is there anything that has a strict time limit in game? I really enjoy exploring and taking my time through these games. I plan on doing most of the side quests I come across.

Other than completing certain side quests before the chapter ends is there anything else I have to worry about if I am moving too slow? Am I free to rest as much as I want or are there negative effects to this?

In principle, there are no time limits here (unlike Kingmaker).

There are a few quests (very few really) where time is a factor. And, of course, if you rest frequently, new activities may arise on the strategic world map, for example opposing armies may take your fortresses.

There is a timer in act 1 (three days) and act 2 (you have to take Drezen in an to me unknown but limited amount of time). Also, the Morale of the Crusade has a limited amount of things that keep it green, so once you do everything Morale will eventually drop to 0, which acts as a soft cap. That said, the soft cap is REALLY long, even if you try to do everything on the map and are sub-optimal with rests you should still have time for everything without DLCs (I personally haven't played with the DLCs yet).

I have not even seen the world map yet (currently in the first tavern). So I am sure that will make more sense after I see it.

Thanks for the response!

Correction, you have to take Drezen in a limited amount of time to get benefits, you have unlimited time otherwise.

Another negative effect for resting too much is this game's abyssal corruption mechanic. It will gradually weaken you as it progesses in stages. Local maps have glowing monuments embued with holy power to slow its progression down. The tavern (and other later main hubs) are also sanctified so that you can safely rest in them.

Act 1 - after 3 days you get message that demons will attack your tavern, after that attack 3 location change, Marketplace, Tower of Estrod and Blackwing Library (mostly some NPCs die if you did not resolve quest, changing the side quests). Note you can ignore it, or even fail to defend the tavern. Woljif(companion in basement of tavern) also runs away after attack, if you did not recruit him.

Act 2 - take Drezen in I think 3 weeks or month and with minimal causalities and get +4 ring.

This isn't true. I've done Iz pretty much at the end of Chapter 5, just before the final location. The only thing that matters in Iz for secret ending is the order in which you explore the different areas.

There is no time limit except when in act 1 and the runner comes up to you to say Kenabres is under attack. If you take too long this quest fails. Also if you take Drezen in x time you get a bonus reward from the Queen. But you can take your time to do it, you don't have to rush.

i saw a reddit post from 2 years ago of a bunch of things that change if you don't do it all in the first 3 days. there were many comments people saying they don't even think it's possible to do it all before the 3 days is up. you have to clear everything without taking a rest.

i have done everything in one go before, most of the time i use one or two rests.
i have done it to the point where i have to rest to not miss the attack on the defender's heart.

it requires going in a certain order.:
woljif's quest spot.
back to heart (don't forget to talk to anevia to unlock 2 places will note with A)
the shop in woljif's quest.
back to woljif's quest spot.
heart (finish woljif quest)
market (do a bunch if not all in one go)
library (free warp back to heart)
Daeran's place (he effectively is a refill on healing)
camilia's quest.
irabeth's place.
place on the way back from irabeth's place (A)
market again (if you decided to do unlock azata since you went to Daeran's place already)
place on the way to(or from) the tower (A)
tower (tower can be done first if you have a good solo build or party)

(optional: talk to bar tender to unlock a vary out of the way place i do this either after the defender's heart attack or before liberary due to the free warp back)

to do it without rest is vary hard and requires good management of resources, use potions to heal since you can get a good stock pile of them in the first chapter.

i prefer to rest once or twice if needed, also only rest with the shortest rest time, if you don't you won't be able to do it in one go and rest.

I see. .actually, i did just blindly go to woljif's spot first. the reddit post i saw said to go save Ember first, because she dies if you take too long.
I dunno how to feel about that, where potential companions get permanently removed from the game, just because you did things in the wrong order. . .

also, what is the "minimum" resting time? every time i go to do it, the game tells me it's gonna take 3 days, but then i can reduce it, but it won't let me reduce it less than 1 day, but then i read elsewhere that you can reduce it to 9 hours, but i can't figure it out.

Doing Woljif's thing first is a good call. Because you get a really good weapon usable by anyone.

You would have to be playing purposely badly to not get to Ember in time to save her. She's in the Market Square which you are required to go to do do any quest other than Woljif's. And she's really close to where you enter the zone.

Other than that, the only thing you really should try to do before the three day timer is the Library. You get a useful benefit for later in the chapter if you get there before the timer. While people think you need to do the Tower of Estrod before the timer, its fine doing it either way. You get a different story either way you do it. And doing it after the timer with Daeran in your party is much funnier.

All the stuff south of the tower (Horgus' mansion, Irabeth's apt, etc.) doesn't matter when you do it. Save it for later.

As far as resting goes, Try not to rest until your party is tired. Try to heal up your party to full before sleeping. You get tons of healing potions in the first chapter. Uncheck the two buttons at the bottom of the camp menu and make sure its set for one period. That usually cuts the rest time down to 9 hours

yeah, didn't realize i ember was so close by. i was actually already in the market sauare and the guy said "to the southeast", which i misread that as a separate zone in the southeast on the world map and i was like, how the frig are people supposed to know to go down there?
yeah, ember would be pretty hard to miss.
clearing market square took a lot out of my party, what with that necromancer and the shadow. we leveled up to 4, but we are completely out of spells and potions. i read that act 1 has like "70 potions", but i only found 15 so far and used them all.
i guess i'll save the vrock for later. . .

actually.... I start act 1 with unlocking everything in tavern except woljif... just talk to him first time is all and leave him in the cell for a while...

I clear my way towards tower of Estrod first...
then back to tavern to turn in quest for clearing it.... sell items.. buy all the cure light pots, cure light wounds and cure moderate wounds scrolls...
then off to market square... clear it of everything except Ember recruitment trigger... but dont loot enemies at except inside houses... and containers are fine... keep load light as possible so characters dont get fatigued...
then go towards tirablades residence to get interrupted with....
Nenio trigger and loot everything and head back to market square to drop off items before going towards tirablades residence... clear outside then REST for the first time lol...
enter house and clear it then proceed to clear areas on the route back up to Daerans location...
rescue mansion and save desna follower... dont recruit daeran and loot and leave....
go back to market square and drop off all items not using to go back to light load... and finish desna questline....
leave market square and go to wine cellar and then backtrack to library.... after clearing head back with storyteller to tavern and while in main area finish all quests possible... talking and such before leaving main tavern area....
go into cellar and set woljif free... go back to main tavern room and Ulbrig shows up....
manage party and REST for second time.....
do woljifs questline...
travel back to daerans location and recruit him....
travel back to market square and recruit ember... enter house to summon vrock.. then beat vrock....
go to market square exit and choose the option to take all loot.... you'll be overburdened but able to exit map that way... head for tavern and pray you dont get into an encounter that would force you on a area where you cant travel back to world map while overencumbered... lol
sell all loot you dont need...
and all you need to do is rest like 1-2 times and defending tavern triggers....

doing it this way I use the xp active party members on thing so that by time I reach the location before tower of estrod or during there im level 4... and about halfway through market square im level 5.... and returning from library im level 6... well level 6 after turning in and talking to people after returning from library...

course preparation wise is important too.... I have a sorcerer as main with grease to handle tower of estrod... grease spell on ramp and hit em with ranged while Seelah and Camellia block stairs from my sorcerer and Lann..... for Brimorok I buy a scroll of protection from fire.... for necromancer I buy scroll of remove blindness.... for succubus I buy scroll of death ward to prevent level drain on Seelah horse... and sorcerer has learned glitterdust by then to open with and Camellia has learned protection from evil communal by then to prevent charm... just open with glitterdust on succubus and charge on horseback with seelah...
