As bard or sorcerer, you can choose a dragon-subclass. Bards might end up better melee-fighters, while sorcerer will get level 9-spells eventually. And at level 5, you can change to dragon-disciple, then. (make sure, you have arcana at least at rank 5 naturally - without buffs, this is one of the pre-requirements).
To get gold drageon unlocked, you need to do seveal quests in all acts. If you miss one, it will be blocked for good. So I would do a resarch fist. (I blocked gold-dragon for my actual campaign.. So I will remain Trickster....)
You can try it out though: Either with the DLC "Midnight Isle" in stand-alone-mode. (this needs work though, You will get a mythic level-per Island-campagin, starting with round 2...)
Or directly with the DLC "inevitable Excess". Caution, though: You might end up taking hours for creating your character and not realy playing the DLC itself then... (I have this problem. I created a lich. But I know I won't play it... I just don't have the patience)
This DLC is also availbale at nearly the end of the normal campaign. (and also midnight isle at act III. But in the campaign mode, you won't get any additional mythic-levels...)
The problem - you cannot do any activities while Polymorphed. No item\scroll use, no item change etc. You will have to cancel poly spell any time you will want to do something, which is annoying, and you will waste spell.
Shifter with Mythic Shapeshifter can poly at will, but he can't poly into Dragonkind III (which is the ultimate Dragon).
But the truth is I do not recommend playing as a hybrid, either a sorcerer or a magus with a dragon lineage, the dragon converts to melee and these 2 classes are bad in melee and the dragon would be very weak in its transformation to fight, the other option he is the bloodrager he is a good melee with some basic magic to boost you in melee, but he is still weaker than a dragon heir in combat
4 sorc/1 scaled fist monk/4 dragon disciple/10 eldrich knight/1 anything
DD and EK make up for the lack of bab of sorc and progress spell book (although -2 levels, -3 with the sf dip). SF is not needed on lower difs but still can help. If you don't need the bab, then drop the EK and do more DD/Sorc levels for bloodline progression.
Bring a bft is a good plan, so if you go with something that can only get dragon 2, you use that form for trash fights then use bft's dragon 3 for hard fights.
Primal Druid merged with angel is another path, if you have the bft companion, then you can shapeshift your pet into a dragon, so you lack the amazing aivu, you still have a dragon friend and then the amazing buffs from angel.
Statwise dragon kind III is the most useful but there is another problem....dragon, from what I seen/heard can be a lil bit too damn big to be useful in certain places and dragon III is the biggest.
There is really easy solution to all the dragon lovers. Mods. Expanded Content mod adds plenty of classes/subclasses and tweaks them around. One of them, Oracle(also present in the base game) has a draconic revelation that allows you to become a dragon. I have no idea how to build such character but I may just go full on Oracle from lvl 1 to 20.
