Sword saint is much stronger than both but doesn't need to dip into caster feats. Ahhh yes the illusion spells that are negated when you hit mid game with all the true seeing enemies.
Sword saint isn't even that good since it delays Dimension slash and the extra AC will never come close to rivaling having a mount.
Once I got ascendant element and abundant casting he was a powerhouse
They are hard to play early on. Seeing as demon resistance makes spellstrike almost worthless. Probably why magus is rated as "highly" difficult to play in character creation
Sword saint gets arcanas at the same rate as magus and ES what do you mean? Very few classes will ever rival having a mount so I'm not sure if you are talking about arcane rider but that is also much better than base magus and ES. Even then you still have the option of aivu or bismuth while not as good as mounts they still increase survivability a lot with the right buffs. Saying the best melee boss killer in the game isn't that good is a weird take though.
Sword Saint does not get a Magus arcana at level 9 , that's usually when the other Magus classes would first get Dimension Slash so then you have to pick it instead of Bane on your next arcana.
Honestly, I have played a sorcerer who heavily uses melee touch attacks. I can see a magus taking a similar role. Usually staggering the enemy with a touch attack when entering the melee. At later levels mindblank is invaluable. The magus levels come when playing as Legend.
I actually value spellcombat more than spellstrike. Spellstrike is quite often switched off unless I attack as touch.
Swordsaint is powerful but I prefer spontaneous casters. I prefer to spam spells, such as magic missile, chill touch and force punch. Naturally the two spell penetration feats are a must.
Level 9-12 is such a miniscule part of the game and is one of the faster level ranges to hit. Delaying bane is also a non issue a sword saint tears through anything worth killing regardless.
