[Spoiler] DLC Village Thing

On the act 3, I've visited the Gundrun.
There a cave side to the town infirmary, and there a big purple worm.
"Fiendish Purple Worm, lvl24 magical beast, ctra ctra"

I hit'em and it ran away. Then I presumed hitting it away won't do any good to the town,
as the thing was eating those nasty insects crawling out from the hole.
Anyone knows this business?

So it runs away after a certain number of rounds. It took me several tries, but I was eventually able to burn it down fast enough. If you do that, then you can burn the corpse, though this seems purely for RP purposes, because it doesn't seem to make any changes to dialog with the quest giver....

Apparently if you kill it, "later encounters in Gundrun will be affected.", according to my walkthrough. Dunno if that means some stuff happens differently in Act 5, or something.

I've always just killed it. Didn't know having it run away was an option. What changes if it gets away?
