But more importantly, crowd control enemies. You'll get targetted at one point or another, so just mess wirh them from the start.
This happens no matter who goes first--I've had a full round where my MC misses every shot (so no damage to the target), while 3 of my other companions do crazy damage. No dice, enemies STILL charge me.
It's pretty frustrating.
Even if you missed, you still *attacked* them first… I reckon that’s enough for the AI, after all.
If you pointed a Bow at me in RL and started releasing, I wouldn’t care that the first shots missed, I’d only care about how long it’ll take you to *not* miss, thus I’d take you out ASAP before that happens.^^
As others said, try playing in TBM and sending in high AC characters, i.e. Tanks first.
The AI is hardwired to go after high AC first if it is also in range, so if your Ranged MC has one of the highest AC, sorry to say, but you built a wonky char and now have to live with the AI thinking you’re a tank, heh.
Plus your MC also has a very high damage potential, and while I don’t have proof that the AI takes this into consideration, it does make a lot of sense nonetheless… you have among the highest AC *and* very high potential for damage, and if that doesn’t spell „priority threat“, I don’t know what does.
Supposedly it depends on who attacks first and/or who gets seen first, so select your melee characters and send them to attack first, before anyone else. That might help.
The target the one with the lowest ac and the least risk of getting hit.
Trapping them in melee is enough to keep them of my wizard.
It also helps my wizard ac is insanely high.
Think of it like this.
Who would you attack.
The one you can quickly kill, that trows fireballs at you or the one who can take a billion hits but doesnt do much damage.
Now same senario expect the one who can take a billion hit is right in your face and if you move away you get hit.
Ai targets those closes with the least amount of ac.
Mage armor + shield helps alot.
It does help.
A trick i learn from a youtube video.
Charge enemies and they general wont go after your range.
