Kind of Weird for Spontaneous Casters to Take a Full Round to Cast Metamagic Spells.
This just makes me not want to make spontaneous casters because it literally takes forever to cast anything in real time. By the time you get that selective grease off, the fight is usual over. Also, that negates the benefit from stacking initiative sky high. My super high initiative wizard could often catch enemies off guard by casting a nice selective grease spell right after combat starts. With a sorcerer, you end up looking at him *trying* to cast that grease for 6 seconds straight.

Another potential huge drawback is that you can't move and cast because it takes a full round.

I honestly don't understand this weird restriction placed on my sorcerer friends. Is there an in-universe explanation for this? (Maybe one that makes sense?)

PS: The first problem is apparently ignored in turn based mode...but I only ever use turn based with important/boss fights.

1: Real time favor's melee fighters.
This is due to the ability to move.
A spellcaster about to cast a spell.
Just charge him.
I also seem people use the flat footed debuff and charge to quickly slaugher armies.
In real time charge and melee are king.
Spells are best used for buffing or creating crowd control before the fight.

2: Sorcerors get there magic from there bloodline.
They do it without thinking.
This makes them less likely to understand how magic works.
The in lore reason why wizards get spells sooner, can lean more via scrolls and have better meta magic is because they study for decade's to understand what there doing.
Sorcerors just do it.
It is like knowing how to use a computer vs knowing how to programe one.
The ability to programe is going to give you an edge.

You can use those quicken metamagic rods to offset those full round cast of "metamagiced" spells. However those rods only got 3 charges per day so save them on specific encounter.

You can also invest in sorcerous reflex (mythic) to cast your first spell of level 7 spell and below (assuming you are level 20) as a swift action.

I see it like they "awaken" spells later than wizards cause of their bloodline and thats their key to unlocking the new spells.... rather than wizards that can just scribe spells into their book.... and when wizards do metamagic they have to apply it into their spellbooks... so in a way it could be said that they are able to cut time to cast it during combat because they already prepared it in advance before resting whereas sorcerers have to apply the metamagic to themselves through their bloodline..... playing game as a sorcerer for instance im able to right before combat augment my spellbook with metamagics and be able to cast them without resting as long as I have spell slots....

i'd also imagine from a balance standpoint they had to do something cause sorcerers and metamagic are already a insane combo....

sure they know fewer spells than wizards.... but the few they do know with a bunch of metamagics can be crazy....

take for instance fireball a level 3 spell.... as a sorcerer with metamagics you can...
level 3 fireball
level 4 bolstered fireball
level 5 empowered fireball
level 6 maximized fireball
level 7 maximized bolstered fireball
level 8 maximized empowered fireball
level 9 maximized bolstered empowered fireball
all while still having the ability to cast your other spells if you wanted.... and with abundant casting line of mythic feats in this game.... means you could cast those fireballs about 10 times per spell level.... so 70 fireballs a day in this case...

you could use even use heighten on haste for spell levels 3-9..... 70 hastes... level 1 grease spell and heighten?... 90 times per day....

so some penalties makes sense I think.... besides... you can still take a 5 foot step and cast metamagics as a sorcerer so not really stuck in one spot kinda thing....

also as a crossblooded sorcerer your spell progression may be delayed a bit compared to normal sorcerers... like say for instance normal sorcerers will learn a level 2 spell at level 4... while crossblooded doesnt learn their first level 2 spell till level 5..... but.... actually crossblooded sorcerers just dont learn the first spell that the base class normally would unlock it.... however... they DO have spells per day for those levels just not the spells.... so at level 4 as a crossblooded sorcerer you can actually apply metamagic to level 1 spells and boost it to level 2 and use it... so while you may not know any spells at level 4 when you level up... you can say set selective grease or bolstered snowball and create your own level 2 spell before you learn em normallly...

Full round actions take forever in RTwP. If you don't want that, but still want to be a sorc, then turn-based combat is your friend. TB combat completely changes how you play a sorcerer.
