Steps to recruit Ulbrig in chapter 1 help **Spoilers **

Just so I don't miss him. Has anyone recruited him in chapter 1? I know you to to library. And then his griffin flies off?. What did I miss?

I think you meet him in Chapter 1... and then can recruit him in Chapter 3

He joined my party when i attack the gray garrison.

Yeah he had a great intro, not gonna lie. After I returned to the inn to sell stuff and rest, he had a cutscene. I don't remember if that was after the inn defence, or before. It was definitely before the garrison assault though.

To recruit Ulbrig in chapter 1:
1- rescue the Storyteller from the library and check the griffon statue
2 - bring Storyteller the crystal knife from the market square
3 - Ulbrig should arrive next time you visit the tavern or right before the attack on Gray Garrison

Fresh character, did the library saw the griffon, spoke to storyteller about the griffon. Went back to town no griffon. Rested went and did the Daeran area to get him as a companion, then on to Gwerm's mansion. I left Gwerm's mansion before doing anything and traveled back and still no griffon cutscene to get him as a companion.

I noticed that i forgot to talk to the storyteller about the knife, I did that and went outside and back into the tavern and sure enough he showed up.

Did some more testing and the purple knife is not the key but rather just talking to the storyteller once you get back to the tavern. I reloaded and this time just opened the dialogue with the story teller, asked who he was and then stopped the conversation, got the quest update, did not mention the knife. Went outside and back in and he showed up. So you have to talk to storyteller and get the quest update, that is all.

On the off-chance you didn't figure this out yourself already - when you tell Irabeth you're ready for the attack on the Grey Garrison, he'll return and join your party. It's one of the more entertaining ways I've seen a companion show up, for sure lol

hello, I was trying to see if I should buy this DLC for my 1st playthrough, I rather like the idea of a paladin riding a griffon

Can you ride a shifter? And also, I think I read that Ulbrig has the ''unique'' subclass of griffonheart, does that mean that if later I want to create custom characters to join in my crew, I can have additionnal griffon shifter? I'd maybe like to have 3 mounted knights on griffons and wanted to know if its possible xD

only Ulbrig can be griffonheart shifter its a unique class with a story behind it... I dont think you can ride shifters cause their not pets.... though I think ive heard that if you romance Ulbrig you could ride him.... in more ways than one... lol...

it did fly off before we left the Library, but i didn't approach it before that

No as long as he flies off you can encounter him again inside Defender's Heart. You may need to exit/re-enter the place for the event to trigger. Also there are some books with +1 to some stats right next to the statue. Did you miss those then?

No as long as he flies off you can encounter him again inside Defender's Heart. You may need to exit/re-enter the place for the event to trigger. Also there are some books with +1 to some stats right next to the statue. Did you miss those then?

Well as long as you didn't end Act 1 you can still get them :)
