Any tips for reducing GPU usage

I got far enough in the game that everytime I boot it up, it sounds like my computer is about to lift off. GPU usage averages out to like 98-100%.

Has anybody found a good way to stop, or at least mitigate this?

You can lock your FPS in your Driver Settings. Borderless-Mode can help too.

You can use gpu usage overlay like afterburner+rivatuner or something similar, then go to the settings and select lowest quality preset. See if this helps you with gpu load (monitor it in real time via overlay). Then gradually increase settings one by one to see where it hits the most, most likely suspects are HBAO / shadows / depth of field. Then analyze yourself if visual fidelity tradeoff is worth the trouble. As mentioned above, limit game fps - processing hundreds of frames will load your card pretty fast even if those are just main menu screen.
