but I think doing actual pickpocketing in this game would have been odd to handle story wise at least.... I mean if you play the story to Act 2 at least you'd know a bit of what I mean.... I mean.... how would running around pickpocketing the people your leading make sense story wise?.... especially if you got caught?....
yeah.... but with how this game starts out its like your too distracted to be running around trying to pickpocket.... starting in prologue everything either wants to kill you... or the friendly NPC's your around are just too pitiful to even think about stealing from..... then reaching the inn your given a kind of a time limit that is ticking down that your gonna be under attack and have to defend that location soon..... why would you wanna pickpocket the ppl that are gonna help you defend the tavern?.... also the thieflings who ARE thieves are actually running away from it all... actual thieving guilds are running for the hills instead of staying and looting.... plus design of the tavern is so cramped you'd be unable to pickpocket without someones eyes on you.... and you also have a Woljif locked in the basement cause he was caught thieving.... so all this kinda encourages the player to not even think about it and focus on prepping for the fight and running errands around the map ASAP...
besides.... I usually play a class with high charisma and persuasion.... and with how Gwerm is so rude... I have no issue with using it to increase his payment to 2 thousand both times he asks me for help.... lol...
That would have been a good opportunity.
Just thinking about BG2, where you could steal a valuable item and sell it at the blackmarket merchant back and forth. Unlimited money right from the get go.
Mobility skill.
Still nothing compared to thieving around in classic Baldur's Gate trilogy or Black Geyser tho.
Not at all useless. There's a literal ton of traps and locked boxes in the game.
But honestly anyone can pick up the Thieving skill in the game with a little careful background planning.
What Rogues really bring to the table is their massive sneak attack damage (which doesn't require actual sneaking, while we're comparing it to other RPGs.) and selection of interesting feats.
And you could always pick up some wizard levels on your rogue too and have the best of both worlds. Or go Eldrich Scoundrel. So many options.
I mean...I guess they are useless if you hate the massive damage they bring by stealth, they pick locks, disable traps, have usually the best trained skills for checks, can scout, and a plethora of things they bring to combat besides their sneak attack...
Setting aside them being useless if you remove all those factors, loot isn't exactly lacking by any means. like until you really find yourself with some bag of holdings, you have problems carrying around quite a bit of the excessive loot in the first place...
