Bows: Can gain the composite ability which allows strength to be added to damage.
Light xbow: Lightweight and deals less damage than a heavy crossbow.
Heavy xbow: Heavy and deals more damage than a light crossbow.

Crossbows: Do not gain any damage via attribute modifiers thus remain at their base damage.

Crossbows: Simple weapons thus anyone can use them.
Bows: Require training thus only those with the required proficiency can wield them.

Your character has a personal weight limit for gear btw that depends on Strength. That's why the Heavy/Light xbow distinction is important. Going from a Light load to Medium load gives you a penalty to Dexterity which causes your hit chance with ranged weapons to go down. The difference in weight between Light and Heavy might tip you over the edge as many chars tend to not have a lot of Str to counteract the weight-issue.

Also important to note that while the Rapid shot feat works whit both, Manyshots is bows only.So bows have one extra attack over Xbows.

The best ranged options is either bows or dual wielding trowing axes.

That is just for AC. Not ranged attack.

Side note - If you don't want to spend an extra feat to get bow use as a Rogue, elves can use them no matter what class they are, or there's at least one background that gives you bow proficiency (Hunter) on any race.

OK, but not rolling a human means that you lose the bonus feat so what's the point?

Under normal pathfinder 1e rules, crossbows take time to reload while a bow does not. I never looked into it seriously, but I think the move action/full action reload times for light/heavy crossbows were eliminated for both WotR and Kingmaker.

I know in PnP Dungeons and Dragons the crossbow had a farther range than a bow to make up for that. (I dunno about Pathfinder rules)

I believe both the bow and crossbow in this game have a 50ft range so that may be while they did away with the reload penalty?
