Knowledge checks klnda brutal
I'm not going to complain about high DCs here. Rather,
1) I'm annoyed that the game doesn't assume the character with the highest value for the skill doesn't automatically roll for the party
2) That once one character fails the check, other characters can't try
Lockpicking works like this, what's the rationale behind knowledge checks being what they are?

1) only for certain checks, and those are mainly ones that more or less make sense as far as your character specifically would be the one doing them.

1. It does if you have your whole party selected. If you select a number of party members and click on a skill attempt, the game automatically gives it to the one with the highest success rate. If, however, you select one specific party member and then click on the skill attempt, then that particular party member would attempt the skill. Kinda makes sense to me, especially if you remember the game has an option to make it so only the character performing the skill gets exp. So you need to let the player have control over who does what, even if it's not the optimal choice in terms of success rate.

They aren't brutal in this game, you gain not much xp from them, even later in the game. In Kingmaker you could get several hundred thousand xp from one of them and the early trap xp was pretty nice as well, too good to miss out. But in WotR, they are not worth it for the xp alone.

All party members should make the check, if any pass you should get the knowledge. Be even better if you got it flavoured by the personality of the character who succeeded. It's not about the XP it's about wanting the lore.

1. You must be talking about the book of paradoxes, it's one pf the only special cases where you alone can do the check, there is a quest (the elve notes quest) that can lower the DC when you complete it in chapter 5.

2. About lockpicking, it fails for the party if the character breaks the lock while failing (that can happen). For knowledge checks that's an odd design I know.

I'll try to have my whole party selected. But sometimes I have the wrong character selected and so I botch the check, which I inexplicably can't retake with another character...

Like the other guy said, it's more about the lore and the gameplay than the XP
