Depends on what ending you were going for ultimately. The default one is Sacrifice. Choosing Nope, has Nocticula pop in and push Areela in. Thus allowing you to survive. Ascension Ending requires a metric ton of very specific choices, along with an item requirement that dictates whether you go alone, with Areelu, or with your entire party. It works in that order as well. Their are two seperate endings as well, one where you smash the planes together for Trickster, and saying "Nope." as a Gold Dragon and turning into the Guardian of the World Wound.
So, you got a lot of options for what ending you are aiming for and what is comparably viable here. Sounds like you didn't trigger the requirements for the Ascension End, solo, let alone party. So the only option for you is to say "Nope, dibs out." and let Nocticula push Areelu into the big ol' hole she made.
Tis the Standard Ending. One way or another, the wound gets closed in Nocticula's favor on that end. Doesn't seem like you did anything wrong, unless you were aiming for the Ascension run, which is the only one that would allow your survival, and additionally Areelu.
TL:DR - You didn't do anything wrong unless you were trying for a specific ending. You got the standard ending.
The order in my playthrough has always been "just PC, just PC and party (takes 5 crystals, I think? Maybe 6), or PC and party and Areelu (takes 1 crystal than the previous option)"
*spoilers for a bunch of different endings on a bunch of different mythic paths*
There's more "separate" endings than that. Off the top of my head, as an Aeon (using the True Aeon choices, as opposed to the Renegade Aeon choices), you can travel through time and prevent the Worldwound from ever being created in the first place. On the Swarm mythic path, you can kill Deskari and become an evil uncontested all consuming master of the Swarm. Azata can drop their island on the Worldwound, sealing it, and working to rejuvenate the land of Sarkoris (the land, not the nation) that's been damaged and warped by the Worldwound. And I've heard that you can "seal the Worldwound by punching it" (presumably sealing it with Demonic rage) as a Demon, though I've not personally seen or gotten that ending.
There's probably unique endings as a Lich and Devil, too, but I can't recall them off of the top of my head.
