How Do You Create Your Main Character?
After asking a question about Sosiel, all the replies got me pondering; how do you normally go about creating your main character?

Do you go full role play and not give a thought about how the stats will add up or do you sit there with a spreadsheet and calculate exactly what, where, when and which barnyard animal will be involved.

Personally, I scour the internet for a portrait that grabs my imagination. Something that I can input a backstory of sorts or at least a personal history for the character. From there I attempt to tie the backstory/history of the imagined character into the games stat sheet.

I'm happy to admit that I always have fun creating and managing the results despite it being a roll of the :d20dice: :DTwenty: in regards to if the character "works".

I go roleplay on normal diff. Class choosing mainly depends on what kind of mythic path i choose to play.

Everything above normal diff needs some more planning ahead.

Spend a week theorycrafting a new build, then make a straight level 20 ranger build.

I have quite an experience in pathfinder so it happens quite quickly these days. But for my first (blind) run for this game, I went with an idea. I knew his backstory, his class, archetype and his mythic path. I had a basic idea he will be based on buffing the allies and high charisma for some debilitating spells. I would say it was 60% roleplay and 40 % optimisation. The build was decent but his class and race choice (dhampir bard) was not the most optimal for the enemies you face. And you always need to heal him separately from the rest of the party.

Keep in mind that the last 1-2 acts became a joke after he got his top trickster powers. Except for the very first boss at the end of the prologue, I had no dfficulty on Hard.

I did not really plan more than 5 levels ahead. If you want to use anybody as an offensive caster, you do need of course the both Spell Penetration feats.

My methodology has changed as I've played more of the game. Initially I just wanted to create a build that closely reflected the sort of character I wanted to roleplay: "How can I build a character that feels like an elk-riding halfling bard?"

Once I learned my way around the game a little better, my methodology changed to trying to create functional builds, because oh boy my first time round through this game was ROUGH. I knew absolutely nothing about D20 type systems and had no experience in tangential games like D&D or Baldurs Gate. I pretty much softlocked myself by making such terribly dysfunctional builds. Theming is still important to me, but more effort is put into finding a compromise between cool characterisation and kicking demon butt.

Now that I'm 800 or so hours in, my builds are "I haven't seen this Mythic path yet/I want to play this path again in a different way, what class can I go for that matches that path particularly well?"

That said I've also not played this game in like 3-4 months. I'm quite tired of Kenabras. :l

Hi there.

Usually for role games i tend to have some idea of what i want to play. Main is always something nature related (usually a druid) and neutral - chaos alignament; also the most close to snake type (by abilities or race) the better. In this game i started as a druid with 1 lvl of sorcerer (for snake blood), but when i see that blood rager could turn into an Hydra, i kept that character as main.
The other characters are: a lawful evil warrior vampire countess (at least as far as most games allow), a necromancer that want only power (no problem in killing party mebers for power or betraying his promises), and a good character that cares for others (most games as paladin but i am trying to find something that allow himself not to follow laws).
So, in most games i have 3-4 runs, each with a different party leader of the commented above.
As for the statistics, i try to set thos value for the character high performance, but i allow myself to set a few points as the thoughts i have about that character (how he/she is).
As for party members, i change them depending on the run and leader i choose, and even if i have same mebers their building and professions are not the same as other runs (try new hybrid classes).
So mostly, i role play my games.

Have fun

I have basic idea.
Like Two handed Axe Thrower. Intelligent Fighter. Lighting Mage. Supporting Mage. Melee Cleric. Archer Cleric.
Then I build it in way so it is strong.

My characters usually always fit a theme, and have a name based off that theme.

If im going for a chaotic good type playhtrough its a kitsune named Raikon.
If its a good/lawful game, its a human named Dorvion
If its an evil game, the name is Nuehaizen.
If its an aeon type game, its Ivontoske.

I pick the portrait depending on the name. Since each character is a theme, it picks the choices already predertimened.

Every game I play is a roleplaying one, depending on the archetype it can be an unfair solo run, an unfair run, or a core playthrough.

Ive been thinking about my next playthrough, I was thinking a gold dragon. 5 Mutation warrior, 11 Sohei, 4 Beast cavelier. I havent worked out the details though precisely.

Eh, mostly just going after Animal Companion, due to how it causes the game to have some interesting things happen in terms of gameplay, and because they add one more party member to play with. Beyond that, just doing whatever I feel like, and usually picking things that no one else in game has, or at least is rare, like Dhampyr or Kitsune for race, Leopard for the animal companion(Seriously, while they are the first thing I run into in Kingmaker, I don't think I saw one in my first playthru), and the rest just depends on my mood, since I have Finn for a weapon, and he's good enough to carry you thru the game.

Just started watching The Legend of Vox Machina.

Now getting ideas about a gnome bard.

One with a set of beads?

Oh yeah, OP was just asking which one we go with most, nothing wrong with being curious about your fellow players. After all, that list of player Choices in Mass Effect was pretty popular for a while there.

Well first I start making a Kitsune because they're my favourite ancestry (and as my icon suggests I'm a furry). Then I decide if I'm going Charisma or Intelligence (and go Intelligence). And then I figure out what intelligence-based class appeals to me.

Then I build the actual concept RP-wise from that. Usually they're nerdy though.

That said I have done a Charisma playthrough. Just the once though because Unfair and abusing the Charisma to AC interactions.

Haven't done an evil playthrough yet. Otherwise I've gone Aeon, Angel, Trickster->Gold Dragon. And that's about it. I did do a Trickster->Legend but messed up my build and didn't quite understand how Legend was going to empower me.

I go based of what I head cannon as lore;

lawfully: aasamar or human
Chaotic: tiefling or half elf
Neutral: elf or halfling
Evil: goblin or draghar
Good: Depends on my mood

Then i pick their class:, for me personally

evil: oathbreaker, rogue, sorc, assassin, inquisitor [any outside of divine hunter]
good: paladin, monk, cleric, stigmatized witch
neutral: hunter, ranger, fighter, witch / wizard, barbarian
chaotic: magus, eldritch scoundral, loremaster, vindictive bastard, bard
Lawful: eldritch knight, herald, bloodrager

Then i pick their look.
Evil: tend to be taller skinny, with red eyes, and black hair [male char]
Good: blue/ green eyes, blonde, female char

Domains i pick:

Evil: anything that worships a demon lord- only exception being Baphomet or Socbenoth [probably spelled it wrong] as they are not evil they are lawfully neutral to me

Lawful: Asomadus, or any arche devil, or arche angel

Chaotic: any minor deity that is trying to seek power [inheritor, pharasma, Maglubiyet etc]

Good: any entity that would bring freedom to humanity through ascension- not to be confused with chaotic which is acting out of spite or revenge. Deskari, Nocticula, etc
