Preferrably as a quick cast via rod, to maximize attack actions.
I run turn based mode, so given on the situation it is very powerful.
Apart from that it is an exploration tool indeed.
In Wrath? Pretty much just to get into areas that seem bugged, like the door to the Swarm guy. In one of my playthroughs it couldn't be opened and I had to bypass it and the next door with Ddoor. And getting on top of some of the buildings in Act IV. Unfortunately there isn't much opportunity to make use of terrain to block melee, which would be the only other use I could find for this spell.
