Are we taking after you get the "Mythic buff"? If so you get some temporary hit points and a lot other things that may be messing up with it?
Yeah, this is something that happened a lot in KM too. I've noticed this with several different abilities, but most often healing abilities:
1) Select a healing ability with your paladin/ cleric/ whatever, and target another character that is currently farther away than "touch" range
2a) if the target is within an appropriate movement range (e.g., 18 ft), the healer will walk over there, heal, and everything is fine. [end]
2b) if the target is further away than the move range THE GAME DOES NOT TELL YOU THIS. The healer will walk as far as they can, and just... stop.
3a) What is *supposed* to happen is that the action is "saved" until the next round. This sometimes happens, if the target does not move, and nothing else goes wrong. [end]
3b) What also sometimes happens is that the healer just... forgets to heal. The resource (spell slot/ LoH/ whatever) was already spent the last turn, but for some reason, the action doesn't happen. In my experience, this typically happens when the healer or target moves (or is moved) in between, or if it gets all the way back around to the healer's turn, and you click ANYTHING other than the target... and even then, it gets wonky.
The only way I've found around this is to move FIRST, and if you're in range, then use the healing ability... but the game is pretty bad about telling you if you're close enough. I've seen a couple situations where I was like six inches away, and it was REALLY hard to tell.
This situation is also caused if you use more than your standard movement distance, and then click on the healing ability... for some reason, it seems to burn the use anyway, but you don't benefit from it.
Moral of the story: for a game that should have been designed around Turn-Based combat, there are still a surprising number of quirky bugs in it.
tl;dr
if you need to heal someone, move to touch range BEFORE using the ability. It avoids this problem 90% of the time.
