No. Both games are separate adaptions of Pathfinder tabletop Adventure Paths Paizo had released in the past.

The games are both separate. Wrath of the Righteous does take place not long after Kingmaker, and you can find a couple of vague mentions of Kingmaker in Wrath, but the games themselves are separate.

The game is a sequel to Pathfinder: Kingmaker, the previous role-playing game of the same developer, but it does not follow the same story. >>>>Source https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pathfinder:_Wrath_of_the_Righteous

So they're in the same world. Just a bit after Kingmaker. But because of the distance of the locations (which is quite big) they have hardly any influence on each other.

You probably want to find out if you should play the first part, for the story and stuff.

To understand the story of WotR, you definitely don't need to have played the first part. The contact points that are there are more like EasterEggs. However, Kingmaker is still a very good CRPG and well worth playing. Especially there are some good mods on NexusMods.

However, Kingmaker still addresses general lore elements that are also relevant in WotR. Or are specifically relevant in WotR, while they are flavor narratives in Kingmaker. So you can definitely feel a connection between the games that feels good without requiring its predecessor.

I hope I was able to provide some insight without spoiling too much.

No, it really isn't. Both are based on different Adventure Paths, completely unrelated to each other. The books about Kingmaker[www.pathfinderwiki.com] was released in 2010. Whereas the books of Wrath of the Righteous[www.pathfinderwiki.com] did come out in 2013. Pretty much the only thing Owlcat's adaption of WotR shares with Kingmaker is less than a handful of returning side characters doing cameo appearances.

Same world (Golarion), which is the setting for the tabletop Pathinder rpgs. WotR takes place a few years latter in a different part of the world. You'll get occasional reference to the events in Kingmaker as well as a small number of cameo/cross-over characters (nothing important). And there is no carry-over content....so you don't import a save or anything.

Kingmaker takes place in 4710 AR and WotR starts in 4713 AR. You can meet Arsinoe and Jubilost and they will make passing reference to the previous game's events.

Mendev is not that far from Brevoy or River Kingdoms

Again, no. It started with the first Adventure Path: Rise of the Runelords[www.pathfinderwiki.com] back in 2007. None of the Adventure Paths can be considered sequels to each other.

It is the next iteration of a Pathfinder game, but not a sequel. The two games exist almost in parallel to each other so you can hear a bit of information about Kingmaker while playing WotR, but don't expect to be able to transfer your character from Kingmaker/any of their achievements to WotR. What's more, due to the implementation of the Mythic Paths and the sheer number of enemies you will face in WotR, the games also have a completely different feel to them. They are like the Pokemon series where each new generation can exist entirely on its own, but you as the player know that so much more exists in a place not too far away.

Just don't play Kingmaker after Wotr. I played Kingmaker about 4 years ago and it was 9/10, but week ago, after finished Wotr, decided to go back there. It wasn't fun at all. The camera didn't spin. There were almost no prestige classes. Difficulty setting lost my favorite "more enemies" and "improved enemy tactics". And many more...

You really need the mods if you go back to kingmaker. Especially call of the wild and the tweaks mod toybox is based off of.

I recommend Goblin Race and Races Unleashed if you like more options. That way you can be a goblin, hobgoblin, dhampir, drow, duergar, suli, fetchling and ganzi.
