Can you return to the Midnight Fane?
Title. One of the fights with the 10 or so Succubus sharpshooters, retriever and others. I'd be able to do it if I rest but I don't want to risk corruption for whatever boss fight which I'm assuming will be easier than this

Return, yes. You need to escape first, though.

I forgot I had Protection from Arrows Communal. That saved my ass and finished the fight
From the wiki there seems to be a super tough optional boss in the abyss, I haven't found yet

Also a combination of levers puzzle in the fane to get a secret stash

Re: super tough optional boss
Yes - if you actually explore everywhere, you'll find it. There's a portal which you don't need to go through to find everything you need in the Fane - the optional boss is through that portal. You can take it on before the Midnight Fane boss, after the boss, or you can come back in a later Act.

Re: puzzle
Yes, but I'm not certain if you can actually access it until you return later. I tried to do so, but for whatever reason, it didn't work. Maybe I was doing it incorrectly, but I came back in Act 4 for it.

Yeah Playful Darkness is damn near impossible on core at this level, even buffed with anything and everything possible
He one hits each character
Even cast True Seeing Communal, didn't hit him once.

Vescavor Swarms in the secret room are pure murder. Coming back for that too.
Wonder if pit spells work on them

You can return from Nexus anytime. I was a few experience points short of 15th lvl, so I went back and finished it off. I am on the Angel path, which really helped for the secret room (the swarms have AC 66 on Unfair). Four castings of Storm of Justice was enough to kill them all, but you need to be able to act.

Playful Darkness is fairly easy to kill by summoning a horde of Spider Swarms (Creeping Doom), and using Mark of Justice to enable them to bypass DR. The spiders basically do the work for you, even on Unfair. I had more than enough castings as an Angel Nature Oracle at 14th. My only losses were summoned creatures, and Bismuth the Triceratops (the bait to start the fight).

Poor Bizmuth, such cannon fodder

So the fight is easy if you use this one specifically nuanced tactic only available to an esoteric build that abuses stacking different mechanics to bypass the rules as intended?

Yeah, that sounds about par for this course...

Yeah I'm not Swarm so. Anyhoo I'll just go back at a higher level.

You can always wait until you're ready to go to the Colyphyr mines.

Sounds like gmwaddington was on Unfair - can't speak to that other than the difficulty level is literally called "Unfair".

On Core, I was able to handle Playful Darkness and the secret chamber with normal builds (aeon zen archer main, paladin Seelah, zen archer Lann, witch Ember, wizard/loremaster Nenio, cleric Sosiel). Last Stand certainly helped against Playful Darkness.

The Vescavor Swarms in the secret room aren't like the others. Hit again and again with controlled fireball hardly making a dent, regardless they chew you up quickly.
I'm only on core right now, I upped it to Hard for a bit but keep getting hit with these spikes when I think its getting too easy.

You are mistaking the simple truth of what he said. The fight is easiest with swarms (which daeran will have if you go nature mystery) and a mark of justice. That is the easiest, but not the only easy way. That is where you lost focus.

You can kill it with healing spells. That way is pretty easy.

casting crap summons on it, then beating it down with range attacks, or reach wpns is easy. Any summon spell, even level 1 summons. If you summon 5 creatures, it takes playful darkness 5 rounds to kill them. Playful darkness can only attack one creature per round.

But sure, focus on the one thing he said that was easiest.

Personally I dont really like the swarm method. They clog up the screen and darkness tends to ignore them. Darkness doesnt ignore summons though. Summon away, summon all day.

The secret room may be Mythic path-dependent: the Angel spell Storm of Justice[pathfinderwrathoftherighteous.wiki.fextralife.com] is what made it possible for me. Each swarm takes something like 1d8/caster level of holy damage, not affected by spell resistance, reduced on a save (the swarms don't seem to be able to completely evade the damage).

I equipped my MC with the ring that makes you immune to mind-affecting.

I'm in the demon city now and for the life of me can't find a damn merchant anywhere. I'm still overloaded with all the loot from the fane
