Ill cast Evil Eye in Turn Based Mode, and if they dont resist, they get like 50 seconds of the effect.
But even if they do resist, they get like 6 seconds of the effect, enough for the next fighter or two on your side to take advantage of the debuff, but knowing it will wear down quickly enough.
Its a good compromise so youre not wasting an entire round with a caster and being like "Well, bad roll, just totally screwed myself"
I think PoE2 did something similar. Like if you tried to Charm someone and failed, youd make them confused instead.
Both good solutions to encourage Buff/Debuff/Manipulation mages and characters to be used. Never bothered with them back in the day with like Baldurs 1 and 2 and the Icewind Dale games because if they resisted, you basically just wasted a round.
This middle ground is a good way to handle this stuff.
Game is great though... I am having a blast with it and some fights are taking me 10+ tries on Hard, but managing to pull through so far.
Seriously every companion basically gives no advantage - You are much better off several levels ahead with much higer BAB so you dont need debuffs like this, have more attacks and with animal companion King Boar is better than any companion.
