Shield Maze locked doors, totally stuck

The posts I've read to find the way through the locked doors in the Shield Maze say loot a body in the flooded section and find a note (Hosilla's note?) that tells about the hidden switch in the other side of the maze.

I got to the locked doors on the left side, the one supposedly with the hidden switch, and an icon didn't appear to interact with the torch. I'd been through the flooded section and defeated all the enemies and looted everything, but I didn't find any note in my Inventory. I read that you must go through this door first, to find the key to the door in the centre of the map (the room with the big circle on the floor).

So I'm stuck, with no way through.

I sort of remember seeing a notice when I first went through the flooded area that I had looted a note, and I think I didn't immediately read it. Now there are no more enemies in the flooded area, there is nothing left to loot there, I cannot find the note required to turn on the icon to interact with the torch to open the door on the left, so it seems I'm stuck.

Any advice for how to progress the game from here and get through the Shield Maze is welcomed, even if only speculations as to what happened.

You need to read the book, picking it up won’t do anything. It should be in one of the tabs and is named Hosila’s orders. All books, notes off importance are separate from trash loot. Be careful thou as you can accidentally toss out key items and screw yourself

could you please provide a screenshot of the map so we can see what sections you explored and not ?

Shield maze is only like 10 min into the game. If you pulled the hat out of the rabbit just load a earlier save and go to the room again. This game is all about save scumming, we all do it. Have fun.

The final step if you can’t fix it. Is go download Toybox. In the settings go to “Search and Loot”. And search up Hosila Orders. Add 1. Knowing how often this game breaks you likely want it either way

You have to copy paste the link from your personal steam galery. Not the most intuitive function on steam

The map should show you loot locations you might have missed and you may need to right click notes in your inventory to "read" them. Better to right click them immediately while looting.

I'd like to try Toybox. Cyrus, or anyone, where can that be downloaded from?

Just google it. However toolbox does not come with a manual and is pretty tricky to use. If you cannot do otherwise be my guest but as it seems now you will just make your life harder.

And just so you know, you'll be locked out of achievements if you care about it

Thank you all for the helpful comments! As I can't find Hosilla's Orders in my Inventory and I've picked up all the loot, restarting at an earlier save looks like what I have to do.

On the one hand, I'm not happy about being forced to go back and re-play from an earlier start, but on the other hand I've learned that there is a great community for this game from which I can get advice if I have a problem.

1) just search up toybox in goggle, should take you to GitHub. Download it, and extract it with 7.zip. It is a free open source tool, if you don’t have it just download it.

2) google Wotr EE Unity Mod Mananger. Download it, extract it where you want. Go to the place, and run Unity Mod Manager.exe. It will tell you to pick a file. Pick your extracted file for Toybox. Hit install. It should say “install successful”.

3) launch Wotr EE, and open toybox. Mine was set to Alt + f10 but the read me file should say what it is. Under toybox there will be many tabs.

Eg: bag of tricks, party, eludes, enchantment, and search and loot. You want search and loot tab. Click it. It will load up to 100%. In right search bar. Search for what you need. Add 1. Then read it. Hope that helps

In this particular case, I don't think you need to actually read the note (Hosilla's Orders) - the quest updates as soon as you pick up the loot. Regardless, you should go into inventory and click the info for every note and book you find. Some of the provide a minor bonus. Plus, although I don't think it's required to read Hosilla's Orders, it might be.

The note in question has a gold icon around it, and doesn't appear in the same inventory tab as normal books.

It is good practice to read everything readable that you pick up. Many of the books you find will grant you some kind of bonus if you read them from your inventory (right click on them, Info).

You shouldn't have to read the note. I didn't need to do anything special to make the icon appear for the torch.

I don't remember if the icon pops up on its own or not. Stand near the door and hold down the Tab key. That will highlight all interactables in the area. (Also useful for highlighting loot that may be hard to see.)
