why cant i select custom portraits with a controller?

decided to try the game out on deck- heard it runs like boiling piss but that's never stopped me from making poor life choices.

anyway i figure out where the "appdata" files are for the game so i could add my own portraits that i use on my regular PC (the portrait directory is in

 /home/deck/.local/share/steam/steamapps/compatdata/1184370/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/appdata/locallow/owlcat games/pathfinder wrath of the righetous/portraits 

if anyone wants to know) and fired the game up, went to make a new character to check if they all made it aaaaaaaaand i dont get the option for custom portraits... but my saves all have the custom portraits loaded... is this some sort of dumb joke? i understand the console versions not having it but why do i have to plug a keyboard in just to have portrait options on my deck? Owlcat please fix!

Controller UI was created with consoles in mind. Custom portraits aren't really a thing outside of official portrait DLC's there.

Meaning for custom portraits to work you have to switch to keyboard mode during character creation. And then switch back to the controller layout. Cumbersome, I know. But that's the workaround for both PC and the Steam Deck.

Honestly after playing a bit with the controller layout on deck im starting to wonder why they added it in the first place. The controller experience would be 10x better without official support for it
