Screen Load Times?
Hi All,
I'm running a pretty OK machine but screen load times are way too slow - and almost game breaking for me. I don't understand why it takes so long to move to and from the area map (lets face it - the area map should have almost nothing on it from a RAM/memory perspective), and then it taking the best part of a minute to get into a tiny two-room house, and the same amount of time to get back into the street etc. It feels like awful (terrible/lazy) coding to me - and after 200+ hours trying to work this game out, I almost don't care anymore how it "plays" out. Does anyone have a solution to this? I'd like to persevere but I'm getting close to putting this game down for good, out of sheer frustration at non-sensible load times.

Yep, it's bad. No matter how fast your system is. It's a fun game from time to time, but obviously not built correctly.

"OK machine" doesn't really tell us anything. Can you be more specific?

In my experience, an SSD hard drive is required nowadays if you do any sort of gaming other than like browser games.
Also, WotR can be really taxing on your processor so if it's outdated it can cause bottlenecking.

I myself have an M2 drive, but this game still takes a rediculously long time to load.

Well it depends on your expectations too. I have an M.2 as well and I load into Drezen in about 15 or 20 seconds. Which is reasonable to me.

My m.2 has a read/write speed of about 5000 MB/s. Do you think it's reasonable that it takes me just slightly less time to load than you?

Well, considering I only have a write speed of 1600 MB/s... I might be completely off on my times though as I've never actually clocked it and the 15 to 20 is just my estimation.

But reading speed is more relevant in this case, which in my case is 2000 MB/s.

I think the read speed of this thing is 5000 MB/s, and the write speed is roughly 4500 MB/s. It can take me a full 15 seconds between pressing "R" somewhere in Drezen and actually getting the rest screen.

How full is your drive? SSD have a much lower threshold for slowing down than HDD's due to lack of space, even only a half full drive might be throttled back because of clutter.

There are a few other things to do but you can do a quick search for those.

I keep it at 90% max, which is what it's at right now.

Yeah, that seems too much. I keep mine at 50% max (of 512 GB). Games I haven't played in 2 weeks get brutally uninstalled. It's quick enough to reinstall them if needed.

I was told 10% was more than enough for this particular disk due to its cache (which is not part of the "regular" storage), or whatever the English term for that is.

Leaving a storage drive 50% empty sounds like you paid twice as much for no reason.

Hmm, did some quick searching and seems like my info is outdated. However, if you have an older drive, the recommendation is to leave about 20% free space for cache functions like over-provisioning.

Twice the space doesn't mean twice the price. A 512 only costs like 15 bucks more than a 256. And I'd rather have a half empty drive than a constant struggle with space. I do play games that take 160 GB of space.

It's not an older drive. I bought it last year, if I'm not mistaken.

Some games, and not just the ones made in Unity, have a problem where it takes increasingly longer to load areas the more you play, the more you save your game and the more things in the world you leave behind, store in containers, sell to vendors ect. since it needs to keep track of all of those things.

Okay then it's likely not due to the drive.
