mastodon trip special ability

whenever i level up my mastodon it keeps displaying the "trip (gore attack)" special ability under abilities gained but when i check the character sheet the mastodon never gets the ability. it has had the "trip (bite attack)" for many levels but the mastodon doesnt have a bite attack so there is no trigger for it. it seems like the mastodon gets the wrong ability and the game keeps trying to give it the right one each new level.

anyone else having experienced this or am i the only one making a trip machine team?

there was a mention in the release notes for 1.4 that trip for gore attacks is fixed, so is it working?

just leveled it up right before starting this thread, so it doesnt seem to be fixed. though it might be a case of the save being from pre patch and theres a conflict there since it already has bite trip instead of gore trip.
at least there is nothing on the mastodons char sheet that would indicate it has been fixed.
i will have to pay closer attention in the future combats to see if it works.

You're always better off going in-game and investigating actual behavior because in-game text and character sheets are so often incorrect.

confirmed it now with another character getting a mastodon companion, and it is as i suspected a conflict with my main mastodon having gotten the bite trip attack before the patch and it carried over, since the new mastodon has gore trip.
