After the final island on a map, the game spawns you back at the docks, not in the middle of the sea. You can get off the boat and sell all your stuff.
If you haven't really needed a rest on the ship yet, click the Campfire icon to be taken right to it, just be aware that there's corruption on rest at sea, but none when you rest at Allushinyrra, in case you need to rest after the voyage, or want to reset spells before setting out on the next leg of the adventure.
The chest is a tiny bit evil, as you'll see from it's pricing, but it'll buy your loot, handy in case you've been stripping the islands bare & your pack's a bit overloaded.
If the chest doesn't buy full price, then just dump your extra loot on the ship int he storage near the helmsman?
If you made it to the ship with the loot, there's no reason to sell for less than full price.
Just take it all and crawl slowly to the shop next time you're on the port.
By selling to the Greedy Chest it allows you to carry those items over for sale to the next party onwards. So there's some incentive there to sell that to it.
