End of act one Mythic Choice question

So, I have the option for Angel, Demon, Aeon and Legend. If I want a different path (Devil, Lich etc) should I not choose any of them and forgo the mythic ability until I unlock the path I want?

If you are talking about the options available at mythic rank 3, you have to earn them through play rather than automatically receiving them. You'll have up to six: angel, demon, azata, aeon, trickster, and lich. Whatever you don't see at mythic rank 3, you failed to unlock and won't be able to select for the remainder of the game.

The others won't be available until much later, though they too must be earned through play, except legend which is available to everyone.

Unless you are simply talking about choosing your first ability at mythic rank 1? If so, that has nothing to do with choosing a mythic path so you can choose what you like.

You don't choose your mythic path in act 1. You choose your mythic path at the end of act 2 with your mythic rank 3.
Everything in act 1 one and 2 is to unlock the paths for the choice at the end of act 2.
The only choice you have for mythic rank 1 and 2 is to pick the mythic hero path (which has one of 6 affinities good, freedom, reality, chaos, abyss, death, related to angel, azata, trickster, aeon, lich and demon paths, but are not a prerequist for them).

If you are talking about the dialog choice when interacting with the wardstone. Know that if you don't pick aeon, it's locked forever. Angel and demon are always unlocked (they are the default paths), trickster only need one dialog choice early in act 1 and lich requirements are in act 2.

About devil, you can only unlock it by first going aeon or azata and do their mythic quest in certain ways, that will change your path to devil in act 5.
For swarm there are several requirements in act 2, 3 and 5 (and missing any one of them will lock you out of hte path).

Most of the TRUE paths you only get to take at Mythic level 3 after taking Drezen back,
until then yer just on the way, sort of
so first 2 levels don't matter much

but make SURE you unlock the paths in Kenabres

Trickster is done in the Library
Aeon you pick up in the Market square
Azata takes a bit of work in the city (3 minor quests iirc), talk to the NPCs near/in the little ruined church on top right side of the market map

as far as I know anyway I maybe wrong! :)

If you do not pick the Aeon choice there, you lock yourself out of that mythic path. If you do pick it, the others will still be available.

Are you referring to taking your first mythic rank after a certain dwarf and demon run away? When you take your first mythic rank after that encounter, there aren't any actual choices on the first page. "Mythic Hero" isn't actually a choice, and you can't select anything else on that page.

Later (when you gain your third mythic rank), you'll choose your actual mythic path. Later still, you'll have an opportunity to switch to Legend or possible, some other choices.
